Sony 4K ultra-HD TVs: SA launch window

Surely SD content is going to look even worse on UHD than it does on HD? And 90% of the content we get is SD.. Even HD will look worse on UHD than on a HDTV?.. So this will only look better with 4k resolution which, to be fair, is pretty much non-existent (and don't expect DSTV to start broadcasting in 4k anytime soon)..

So lets pay a whole lot more, for the picture to look a whole lot worse. Am i missing something here?..

Wont be brilliant, but don't think worse. These TVs are not seriously expensive just because they have a 4K panel, they also include powerful upscaling processors.

Also I recon the PS4 will launch with at least 4K picture capability (view your 8MP snapshots at native res), possibly with EHVC video play (if not will be added later).

So if the world was full of people just like you we would still be sitting with black and white TV's.
Why pay more for a colour TV if we only broadcast in black and white now?
*you in the seventies*

I'm not saying lets not progress.. That would be silly.

In hindsight, I didn't clarify my point properly. I was kinda implying what's the point for this here (in SA). DSTV barely has the capabilities to provide a few HD channels, yet alone 4k content. Overseas there are tons on HD channels (Not least Netflix/Hulu..) and even 3d channels. I'm quite sure they'll have 4k channels too when these become more affordable.

Realistically, unless we have a major overhaul on our broadcasting front (because satellite is long outdated), we won't be getting 4k content for a very long time. So what's the point here? We don't have Netflix/Hulu, we don't have internet that's capable of streaming 4k (maybe when h.265 takes over), we won't get 4k channels, and downloading 4k content will be huge... I suppose Roman raises a good point on the ps4 front, but that's not coming until the end of the year. So ultimately, in SA, you're gonna be watching mostly SD content, and maybe the odd 4k blu ray, on your UHD tv..
