The original "Oscar Pistorius Shoots Girlfriend" thread is located here....

-----------------------------
The media and civilians in general are making a lot of noise about how Hilton Botha didn't wear the shoe covers while examining the crime scene.

Its a shooting at a house, where the shooter and the victim are both known. How much can the cop contaminate the scene by not wearing shoe covers? Surely he could equally contaminate the scene by not wearing a suit to cover his clothes or by not wearing a hair net?

Maybe i am missing something here?

Is this maybe noise because shows like CSI have given the public a false impression of the reality of crime scene investigations?

This is just a ploy to discredit the investigator to try deem his statement/forensic evidence invalid, clever tricks by oscars lawyer to turn the system in their favour.

Agree its a ploy, but the media and ordinary people are going crazy about this. The amount of people i have heard complaining about the shoe covers - unreal!

Seems like justice has a price!

But still, i thing people have become nuts because of CSI

I don't get why the big hoo-haa is either. Not like he'll purposefully destroy evidence

Hasn't the original investigator already been 'fired'? I think he has been replaced by Mr. Gen. Mampada himself :D For the sake of my beloved country's image, I only can hope no further blunders will come to light.

Cases get thrown out on technicalities due to poor police procedure all the time.
I think it's GREAT that a huge spotlight is being shone on this.

I thought so. I mean he could have disturbed evidence that the state could have used.

I found the guy to be very arrogant, he just walked in there thinking it was going to be his career making case... Toe nie :D

I asked this in the main OP thread but it got lost. What about paramedics/others that are first on scene? Do they wear booties too?

How do they attend to the victim then?

By attending to the victim directly. Not exploring the property.
First priority is to attempt to save a life.

IO wasn't saving a life, so he had no excuse for contaminating the scene.

I think they form part of the Crime scene and not the crime investigators. And they are called to court to testify on their actions. They are not suppose to disturb any other evidence as they are just there to tend to the patient.
I have heard of cases where they destroy evidence but their job is to try to help a person first. They can testify for their actions and why evidence was moved or destroyed and why it was needed to move the patient.

correct

Isn't it only after that when they declare it a crime scene when stuff is not suppose to be moved? after the person is declared dead or in the ambulance?
