What could cause this?

It applies to everything.

During the day my ping/latency is about 220 and at night it is 400+

It never used to be like this.

Congestion.

Could congestion cause my home ping to be more as well?

As it stand I am getting almost 500 home ping which is freaking crazy, can't get anything done this way.

What do I do?

Change ISP? Phone and complain? Upgrade line speed?

What's a home ping? Do you mean a local ping vs international ping?

First thing do a traceroute via command prompt and see where the problem is.

Don't panick yet.

My home ping on WoW.

I don't know what a traceroute is, but I am very frustrated atm

just congested , just hope dslam gets upgraded soon :P

are you on a old 4mbs max exchange ?

No I am on a 1mb line, well it used to be 384, but supposedly it got upgraded.

What's strange is that my internet is slower than it was years ago.

It's so frustrating I can't do jack****.

I am experiencing the same. Lag spikes in the evening - quite frustrating.

Frustrating is an understatement! How does Telkom allow their exchanges to become so congested? Hopefully the MSAN's will be rolled out quicker and will help to alleviate the bottlenecks! :o

The thing is my friend lives in Welgelegen and his latency is 200 home/200 world all day long

He is with Mweb 2mb line uncapped

:( I need to fix this

My latency is now 173 home 175 world

wtf is this ****

When your interwebs go to the dogs again, quit WoW, open a command prompt (start > cmd > enter) and enter the following command:

tracert www.bbc.co.uk

And copy the results here.

P.S. You playing WoW on EU or US account? Realm? Horde or Alliance? Char name?

Have had similar issues for the last couple of months here in Capetown.

Tracerouting during the day, my first hop is 9-20ms. After hours and weekends its 100-300ms !

After logging four calls, finally spoke to someone who seems to know what they are doing this morning. Informed them that my wife's line does not experience these issues so they are going to move me to her 'card' (?) to see if that helps.

Fingers crossed.

is your line syncing at 1024/512 or 1024/507? 507 means on a new exchange and backbone might be upgraded soon
