Cell C just got a huge cash injection; here's how they will spend it

Government has helped MTN and Vodacom by turning a blind eye to collusion and price fixing...
 
It's business. Banks are not helping anybody. If you still think that, you are a fool. Loans are not free. Vodacom and MTN have enough corporate backing from parent companies and the slight little advantage of having been the only two operators before Cell C was launched in SA. Cell C is trying to catch up, but they are far behind.
 
I hope now, that they put this money into good use, that is expansion of their footprint and upgrading of their network.
 
Cool, will be glad if they can rely less on VC - I have been seeing a lot of problems and suspected the VC to Cell C and vice vera handover to be the issue as this is always where I end up with issues. As soon as I am in a zone where there I jump between the two I lose a lot of calls, but when just on Cell C it is all peachy.
 
What is amazing is how Vodacom and MTN have dicked Cell C around as long as they have- a decade or more and Cell C have put up with it. They need a bail out because without one they are really up the creek. Maybe in the beginning there was an ageement of sorts, but as Cell C stepped out of its "agreed" role and completely reinvented itself and in the process and in very recent years took more and more of their host's market...things I imagine became not so peachy and the dirty tricks began? Am I wrong?
I believe the cash injection will go to back pockets of those in charge and what's left will hardly make much difference.
I've always believed Cell C was doomed from the start having to share infrastructure.

Exactly, in 2001 after Cell C got the licence to start operating, Vodacon and MTN raised the interconnection fees five fold from R0.25 to R 1.25. And ICASA and the DoC kept mum. Pure collusion. Gov still has 5% shares in VC, and used to have another say in VC through Telkom, which used to own 40% of VC shares.
 
This can only be gr8 for Cell C. We mustn't forget that if it wasn't 4 Cell C people of all networks would have been paying those crazy high prices for data. Cell c changed the game. Can still be lower though. If Cell C can sort out network problems it would be S A number one network 4 sure.
Im just scared that if Cell C hosts a few virual networks as was reported it not be able to carry the load, as they are already struggling with existing customers.

And you think VC, MTN, and 8ta are just going to sit back and watch.? No. I reckon they're all going to gang up and try shut Cell C down.

Well done AKC I live just north of Vereeniging between Jhb and Vereeniging and it would be great to get those high speeds I experience in most of Jhb here in the south also(Currently I'm getting 1,2mbps downloads).

I notice the network is terrible in fordsburg though,so yes some catching up to do in that particular area even though in every other area I visit its decent.

good to hear, but i have a feeling that 5bn won't be enough last year alone Telkom, Voda and Mtn spent over 6bn on their network upgrade and maintenance and this year they'll spend more so Cell C need deep pockets to have a quality network of their own

In terms of subscriber numbers, Cell C is still far behind - that is what I meant.

True the telecoms industry deals with huge CAPEX amounts.R5,7 billion is not as much as it may seem to us.

Ok that is true,lets hope they don't grow too quickly though or current subscribers will suffer.

Change Vodacom to AKC, could clear things up for you.
 
Falcon obviously works for Cell C.
Such a fanboy of the company and has yet to acknowledge the data connection crysis.
