Happy downloading....

Damn MrBEEP, how about a 30GB for like R130 and we forget the debit order story? :-)

We considered a 30GB package, but unfortunately it is too close to 50GB to justify.

You will enjoy having 50GB's of data to burn promise!

I would love a capped account from Openweb (100 Gb), since I had really fast speeds with the trial Gold account; but day time speed was too slow. Just concerned what happens if my cap runs out - any top-up options?

Yes, you may indeed topup.

You may load any of the account denominations as a topup, eg 5GB for R49 or 20GB for R89 etc.

So this:

Says that openweb said the minimum is R6 per GB. The talk on IPC doesn't seem to amount to a 33% price cut. Couple this with the fact that I honestly and truly get a far better internet experience on an ISP charging a premium for capped data, I can't help but feel that these absurdly low prices, while great, are bringing down quality in general.

Hey Friends,

Quick heads up, we only have 21 of these fantastic accounts left!

If you were thinking of getting one, hurry!

Hi MrBEEP,
Sorry, this may have been asked before, but what network do you use for your capped accounts?
Also, how does the latency etc on these capped accounts compare with Afrihost's capped accounts? Plagued by the same issues at the moment?

I'm currently switching between this Openweb capped (freedom) account and a normal Afrihost capped account. Use both for work VPN, skype and other voice calls, lots of youtube. To be honest, I can't really notice much difference, but prefer the Afrihost one slightly for unquantifiable reasons. I suppose it's a mix of familiarity and the much better client zone/control.

Right now, ping to bbc.co.uk:
Afrihost: Average 155ms with 2 out of 38 being odd 200ms
Openweb: Average 160ms with 2 out of 38 being odd 180ms

For downloading of podcasts, Afrihost seems slightly faster, but not enough that I've felt I want to benchmark it. Some of these come from a local akamai anyway.

Not really a gamer so can't speak for real latency concerns, but you usually notice bad latency jitter over ssh and I rarely do on either of these.

I have not personally felt much of the Afrihost pain, during business hours I can continue to work just fine, stream some tunein or simfy and after hours youtube seems just fine. At this point I would say just pick your favourite each other month. I'm sure if you do a minute by minute comparison throughout the day some more interesting things might come up, but again might not even be worth the worry.

I'm sorry for bumping this old thread, but does anyone know what the difference/distinction is between OpenWeb's "Gold Capped Unshaped" and their "Freedom Capped Unshaped" products? Specifications seem to be nearly identical, but the Gold Unshaped is going for at R29 for 1 GIG whereas the Freedom Unshaped is going for R49 for 10 GB ? If both are unshaped, capped products, utilizing the same IS bandwidth, then what exactly accounts for such a major difference in price?
