Telkom’s fixed line slump continues

Same old saying...get rid of the line rental and reduce ADSL line prices and I'm sure you'll see a turn around...idiots!
 
It is because Telkom does not want to provide naked ADSL. Telkom wake up, people don't want telephone lines anymore, they want ADSL!

So you want ADSL but you don't want to pay for the telephone line running from the exchange to your house?

You are currently paying for line rental (piece of copper) and ADSL port rental (access to the ADSL network)

Yes we are paying too much but if they remove the analogue telephone part you still need to pay for the copper which means ADSL rental will most likely go up and not down
 
I dont think the guy is advocating for removal naked adsl alone. The point is simple, bring naked adsl alone without extra costs. In other words naked adsl without rise in price.
 
Well, you have to pay R157 just to have a line, without doing anything with it yet. For that price you can get a decent cell phone and some airtime and data.

It needs to go to under a R100 and offer you some calls.
 
Damn, in 2000 to 2001 they lost near 10% of lines... cellphones (nokia 3310 for example) becoming more mainstream then the cause or something else?

If memory serves that's about the time cellphones became really popular and everyone seemed to have one, so guess that would've been a contributor to those loses
 
Ah well... Telkom's own fault...had they stopped charging line rental on adsl products years ago, the fixed line internet access market would have been booming... they haven't just screwed up the market for themselves, but all the other ISP's as well!

Im sure it will still work out to be less than what is currently being paid.

I dont have ADSL as Telkom F'd around to much so I cancelled before they even installed. I went with a WISP instead. F Telkom.
 
It is no surprise at all that Telkom is bleeding fixed line subscribers. Fact of the matter is that ADSL access to the majority of South Africans is still sorely lacking. ADSL is still being enjoyed by a select few in this country. I have also terminated my line due to lies for last three years that ADSL will be rolled out in formerly black areas where genuinely you will find that business establishments have sprung up and they have to do with dial ups. I see no return for telkom given the stiff competition out there.

Well explain how prepaid costs R160 for the annual line rental and contract is R160pm for the line. Too much of a disparity there to be a fair thing.
 
What Telkom should do is this... You still pay for line rental, but they give you 50% off if you bundle the copper line with DSL line... So if you take the 2mbps line which cost R299, you then pay R80 for the copper line and there you go... Then sweeten the deal, if the customer signs or agrees to 12months continuous service with Telkom for that package, then they get 25-30% off their monthly bill, which should be around R285pm for DSL and fixed line rental... And seeing they increased the speeds, R285pm for 4mbps fixed line... That is a deal even I would go for...
