Hi There

I am on the 4meg Telkom uncapped package I recently upgraded to this package on an attempt to fix this problem but its now its getting worse.

Roughly from about 10am till about 11pm in the evening international gaming is throttled.
Here a link of ingame ping of league of legends and a ping to the league of legends server

Now this happens across all games that I have found. I have reset telkom ports a few times and with the only response from them saying it must be the exchange?

If anyone has suggestions to fix this problem.

Kind Regards,
Jared

Yup they shape unfamiliar ports and usually ports that games use fall in that category. But you should do a trace route if your first hop is high then your exchange is over utilized. If not then its your ISP.

I had this in Dota 2 this evening also! SA servers ping were fine but look at my ping when I had a game on EU west (SA servers sometimes take a long time to find a game).

My in-game ping (excessively high):

I did follow up tests in a practice lobby and the Russia server also had similar high latency.

Can I suggest you please contact ranger with this info? I'm sure he can send it to the relevant engineers to sort that out - cos that's some terrifying results :( And it's getting me a bit worried.

Just remember that the EUW LoL servers were a bit stuffed yesterday and the day before.

Been experiencing the same issue lately, one minute the latency is 200ms the next it spikes through the roof and i experience serious packet loss issues.

I wonder if it doesnt have something to do with all the line upgrades they been rolling out lately?.

Also having the same issue. Trying to explain to the f**ktards at the telkom call center is like talking to a brick wall. Tried to put my faith in telkom by getting their 10mb uncapped package but it seems i was wasting my time. Guess i will be canceling now

I can confirm that these high pings happen both on uncapped and capped accounts and has been like this a while already......

League of legends EU west and Path Of Exile is very badly effected by this ping issue from telkom internet. Its not exchange congestion!

I think we need to make like a protest and keep this thread alive until its fixed.

Sadly this actually makes me keep a backup account @lantic uncapped bolt on just to play my league of legends.... Not cool from Telkom ISP.

Downloads and the rest of the stuff works fine.

I don't think it's just gaming. Ever since the line upgrades the performance of my capped account has gone down the tubes. It's gone from being able to stream video and browse smoothly to constant buffering and excruciatingly slow performance. A speed test locally to MTN Speedtest.net server gets me 5mbits, but a test to New York netts me 0.25mbits. I'm sorry, but that is absolutely not what I'm paying for and expect it to get fixed.

**Update
I spent roughly just over an hour on the phone with telkom today. I posted on their facebook which was ignored and have attempted to be as friendly as possible at all times.

After an hour on the phone and having telkom technicians leave me on hold for over 10mins. I finally found someone that could understand what i was saying.

He then checked my account and said my line is syncing at 10mbps and that by this saturday they would have finished the upgrade in the area. I live in Kenton on Sea in the eastern cape.

It is now 9oclock in the evening and I have 200+ms to capetown and joburg so its now impossible to do anything. Reset modems. Reset computers and still no problems.

I hope by saturday it is then working fine as I'm paying nearly R12000p.a. and feeling very frustrated.

This is technically incorrect. We don't shape based on port. All regognised gaming traffic is prioritised. There may be some technical issue resulting in some gaming traffic getting the wrong priority, which we will need to investigate. The best way to justify effort in investigating is if there is a support ticket escalated to the correct team.

The call centre is supposed to log a ticket for you if they can't resolve the problem on the phone, and provide you with the ticket number. Or, you can send the details to support at telkomsa dot net, and it should get through to people who will investigate these issues. If you have no feedback in 2 business days, PM me the ticket number.

What is the shaping when softcapped on a capped account? Yesterday I just had an issue with EU servers but today (after getting softcapped) I am getting the bad latency on the South Africa Dota 2 server as well. A trace route gives normal (<40ms) pings though.

Just sitting here waiting for tomorrow so I can forward you ticket number :>

Here is my tracert to show that it is not my exchange but rather a shapping that i'm experiencing based on my knowledgetracert.jpg

Path of Exile is unplayable.

Contacted the rep, and made a post on the feedback forum. This must be resolved ASAP.

World of Warcraft latency has gone from 180ms to 450-500ms in last two weeks. Tracerts look fine, definitely shaping.

I ordered my telkom ISP a week ago... Uncapped account... i also have a mweb premium account.... Ping on any local server.. IS, mweb or saix is between 350 - 790... Shocking!!! log into router.. change to mweb premium a miniute later... 40 - 80 ping to most servers.. Im thinking of cancelling my account with telkom now ? Anyone else getting this ?

Perfect over the weekend and look its monday. Back to shaping.

Thank goodness I've found this thread. Been suffering 450-650 LoL ping in the afternoons for AGES now. Usually is a very steady 190ish. It's horrid, please fix it. Lots of my friends have had similar ping issues at similar times too.
