Say what? :erm: :wtf:
I hope Afrihost will inform those 18000 that their details have been leaked.

Why was Afrihost storing their clients data on Google's servers in the first place?

I don't think did. We would have heard about it if they did contact the 18000.

We're looking at the number of clients exposed and we'll make a decision in that regard. We do believe that no clients will be compromised due to our error.

We are sincerely sorry though - we did not expect that the information would become publicly available :(

strange that MYBB did not make this a breaking news story! on a slow news day like today.
Is it perhaps because its afrihost ? i recall the big issue about Mweb accounts and details exposed a while back.

We weren't storing the info as such.

We were using Google Maps to plan how to deliver better services to our clients based on their geographical location and this was only clients with managed ADSL lines.

The info was meant to be private as per the tool we used - so we're still investigating how it was made public by Google.

We do sincerely apologise for this and assure our clients that we do believe there will be any impact to them from this :(

It's the customer name and physical address for heavens sake - while not ideal it is information which anyone can pick out of your garbage bin. Unfortunate that the information leaked (I saw it and to be honest would not have been worried if my details were on that list). Most of the customers with a landline would have the same details appear in a phone book. Not sure why people should be upset or go out on a witchhunt now.

So my address is on there? :wtf:

We're not sure about that - but we have been very open about the issue with MyBB to ensure that they have all the pertinent information to reassure our clients that we will continue to make privacy of personal information a priority.

We messed up, it's true, though :(

That's why I do banking with IE or Firefox.

There was absolutely no banking information, unique identity numbers or anything beyond names and addresses. We don't believe any digital fraud will result from this. Also, all of the data was removed as soon as we realised it had become available and we believe it could only be found using very specific search strings :(

Phew, at least it's not banking details... but still... a PITA for the company concerned.

@Afriman - hope you learn from this mistake ;) :)

some people want the information to be private .. you respect that request. plain and simple.
