Prettier - yes
Faster - probably looking at the patches added to the kernel and the fact that they using a RT kernel patch set
Better - this depends, you won't replace mint with steamos on your desktop pc, it is not meant for that. I can see running this on a gaming pc on my tv though.
 
So keen, but never used Linux so guess I should wait months or so before I try it
 
Anyone can roll an OS these days.
Technically its cheating, because nobody innovates, just copy and paste, ad-nauseum of the Linux Kernel.
 
I downloaded it last night. I'll install it later today on my PC and see how good it is for gaming. Should be interesting.
 
Give us a report. For me, Linux Mint 15 is the ultimate OS and works flawlessly and is visually appealing
 
That sucked balls: Steam OS beta only supports UEFI boot. I thought that they had a second method for non-UEFI systems but I was wrong.

There is a workaround here but it involves a few extra packages and tooling around in the command line. Not exactly the easy install I had in mind but i'll give it a shot later.
 
Finally got it installed. Busy downloading Counterstrike Source. Looks ok so far.
 
Is it a plug and play OS like windows yet...? If not then I will wait until then but this looks like a good way forward as I don't want to use a OS that won't play all my games.
