Claim your e-toll money back: JPSA

Hahaha. Got an unsolicited SMS this morning claiming to be from Scamral, alleging that I have "outstanding fees in the amount of R136.29" which has supposedly been "handed over for collection to VPC" and suggesting that I call them (Scamral) with an annoyingly long reference number.

Fat chance.

Good job... those were the docs i were looking for.
I remember TMT... they took over the harassment squads from the JMPD some years ago... now I know why they went quiet.
They are scumbags of the highest order.

Yes. File an ISPA complaint and request PAIA from Sanral and Paymyfine - ISPA will do nothing about this - wanna bet?

BTW: ISPA is closed till 6th Jan.

You might include the POPI Act into the reckoning too. Although POPI might be a tad late for this. Either way, it highlights the underhanded and deceiptful nature of the beast.

POPI is irrelevant - there is a grace period of a year. Not sure what T&Cs and privacy statements were in place when users signed up - found this interesting - https://www.paymyfines.co.za/Terms2.aspx - so has anyone receiving mails from Sanral via PayMyFines consented to this and if not, PAIA is your friend and then ISPA and then ECT for a number of reasons:

6.7 Disclosing your information to third parties

6.7.1 PayMyFines reserves the right to access and disclose individual-identifying information to comply with applicable laws, regulations and lawful government requests, to operate its systems properly or to protect itself or its users or to solve any customer disputes.

6.7.2 We may provide aggregate statistics about our sales, customers, traffic patterns and other site information to third parties, but these statistics will not include any information that could personally identify you.

6.7.3 We will not disclose personal information collected about you without your express consent thereto or through due legal process.

They're probably going to say it's a lawful government request

So ownership conveys government agency rights?

No - if you dig deeper into the PayMyFines ownerhsip and relationship to Sanral and Kapsch you will find that some companies receive nice sums of money for "data services". You will be surprised what other data Sanral collects.
