I'm on the 3 + 4 package currently. Depleted today.

I have an option to buy 1GB @ R99 or 2GB for R198. I don't do that, what I do is change my package to the 5 + 5, which gives me 2GB more, which proratas @ R58 till month end.

What happened? I saved.

Instead of buying 2GB for R198 (top up), I bought it (2.32GB to be exact, depends on the day) for R58 (package change).

Now, anytime before the 31st I change my package to the normal 3 + 4.

I can't quite follow your maths here. Does this mean you got a little over 5GB for about R153?

For R197 I get 7GB.
If I change my package mid month (15th), I'll prorata mid month and get 2GB for R55 odd (to the one below of 5 + 5).
So instead of me paying R197 (7GB - package) + R198 (2GB - top up) = R395 for 9GB. Effectively I pay (R197 + R55) R252 for 9GB. Of course I can tweak all I want with the different packages available, I can go to a much higher package and get more value.

Of course, I talk for my package and circumstances.

Thanks man, but I still don't get it. If you pro rata the 3+4 package mid-month you should get 3.5GB. If you pro rata the 5+5 package mid-month you'll get 5GB. Where does the 2GB come from?

It depends on the damn date...

Yes, this "smart" way saves money... But is it ethical?

Last month I did 100+ GB and only paid about R500.

I calculated that going from Mobile One to Mobile Three offered the biggest change in cost per GB's (More data, less prorata).

Example:
- Started month on a Mobile One package @ R99 and 2GB of data.
- Switch to Mobile Three package @ Prorata on (R197 (package price) - R99 (already payed))
- Now comes the interesting part: Prorata is only applied to normal data, while the full promo data chunk is received.
- Thus, an extra 4GB + prorated normal data.
- Now, switch back to MOBILE TWO @ no cost and get some more data.
- Now, switch back to MOBILE ONE @ no cost and get some more data.

At the end of this cycle, you are left with a bucket load of data @ minimal cost.

DISCLAIMER: I don't think this is right, and the system is probably flawed?? After discovering this, I did it a few times last month, felt bad, and I have since stopped this practice and I am now constantly on a Mobile Two package. I suggest you do the same :)

Ethical... Haha, I was sure I was to hear that damn word...

Hey, I take cheap data no matter the form it comes... I suggest they do something about this... It does looked flawed. Me no stops until an amendment.

That's probably right, but Afrihost is a great company and I don't want to take advantage of this possible flaw. It just seems too good to be true.

Anyone else care to give their thoughts on this matter?
