I received the MWeb Fon Wifi Router this morning and trying to find the user manual (Technicolor TG589VN v3). The MWeb paper work points to this URL but it's not listed there. Further more, Google doesn't list anything either. A bit of a fail in my books.

Stuck on the same page as you. Im trying to find the router password but nothing i try works >_>

Hi Guys

here's a link to the TG589VN v2. cant be too much different than the v3?
hope it helps!

https://static.telecom.co.nz/digital-content/assets/documents/technicolor_tg589vn_user_guide.pdf

heres one for the TG587vn v3:

http://www.technicolorbroadbandpartner.com/getfile.php?id=7600‎

The content is almost identical so I'm guessing the info is applicable to the TG589VN v3 as well.
I had to reset the router.
Thanks a bunch for the link though. Now Im just trying to figure out how to change the DHCP settings. But for some reason the guide says to go to Home Network > Interfaces > Local Network

But it's blank when I go there. Tried different browsers as well =\

Yeah I tried that. Oddly enough didn't work. Resetting the router fixed that. But now Im running into another issue lol (sigh)
Im trying to setup DHCP. I want to make the router use the IP 10.0.0.2 and assign a range of 10.0.0.100 - 10.0.0.252 to devices.

But I can only do that in bridged mode. Also seems thats where the local network setting under interfaces appears when in bridged mode only
So that works and all.

But my issue is that when this modem is in bridged mode, I cannot get the damn modem/router to dialup to my Mweb account anymore. There doesn't seem to be any page that allows me to specify this. So I have to manually diapup on my computer. Which is fine. But for my tablet devices... well yeah they don't seem to offer such a thing as well as the rest of the family's phones. So it's making WiFi useless I guess.

So not quite sure what to do right now.

And whats even more annoying is the fact that when I use the ppoe mode on the router, I cannot diapup on any of my accounts like my afrihost etc. So Im stuck to the account that the modem/router dials up to no matter what which is also very annoying.

also having the same problem - after trying to change it I can't login to the router anymore
Default gateway shows 10.0.0.2 but that's from my old router
tried restarting pc and factory resetting modem - no luck

Did you try manually assigning yourself the IP range to something like 10.0.0.101 / 255.255.255.0 / 10.0.0.2 so it's the same as the router? I had to do that before I assigned the IP ranges. Since I first changed the router's IP address and had to click save.

A bunch of settings actually appear to be missing from the router. Like I cannot find the option to save the router configuration in the tasks list when you go to Home > TG589vn v3 > Configuration

According to the V3 manual from a3aan99, there is meant to be a save settings link to click as well.
Something tells me Mweb did a lot of customization to this router >_>
Can't even Telnet into the thing. It seems the login details changed. Since no matter what I try (again with this haha) It just disconnects me straight after for getting the details wrong.

I also received one last week, but like the rest of you, i have similar issues.
I have a server that i need to give a fixed IP address.

Got hold of MWEB and they informed me that there is no way to do it with the current firmware.
I managed to get hold of firmware - MST TG589vnv3 R10.5.2.F BN.bin, if some one knows how to load it, no access from GUI, then i can try it and see if it works

From what I can gather they are using TR069 to manage the router, so you need to call them for any changes. I get why, but it sucks for people like us who want to do other stuff.

So on that subject, has anyone figured out how to get telnet/SSH access? Is there a way to get SNMP running? I want to see the bandwidth stats for the various interfaces so I can measure my network vs fon.

Holding in the reset button and powering on the router takes it into bootp mode. Which I think means you can download a tftpd daemon on your computer, and then it will try get the image file from that.

Please could you tell me where I can download the image file you found, so that I can try give it a go.

I have managed to unlock the Mweb TG589vn v3 router. See my guide: http://devrandom.za.net/blog/2014/02/16/unlocking-the-free-mweb-tg589vn-v3-vdsl-fon-router/ It is running now generic Technicolor firmware with root SSH access!

GREAT news Suckerlove78.

Thanks for this effort, it's greatly appreciated.

I have 13 of these routers now that need to be configured in different branches all over KZN.
This will make it so much easier without having to reconfigure all the networks to conform to the MWEB defaults.

Is FON still enabled by going this route?

AWESOME!! Thanks Suckerlove78!! I would also like to allow the Fon part to continue to work, I just want to be able to pull the SNMP data so I know which network is pulling data. Ideally I would like to manage the prioritisation between the two my self.

I have not checked if FON remained, but my gut feel is that FON is removed, as this is generic firmware for the TG589vn v3.

I cant get it to work ;/
