Article: Agang SA will select a new leader: report

Agang SA intended electing another leader to contest the general elections, a Gauteng official told The New Age in a report on Wednesday.

"Our leader is taking us where we never wanted to go. If she wants a merger with the DA, she should have consulted us first," acting Agang Gauteng secretary Yako Sakhiwo told the daily.
 
Oh thank goodness, it's sure be embarrassing if they ran the elections with a candidate for presidency!
 
It is neither here nor there whether Agang goes with the Ramphele to the DA or not.

The DA has been courting Ramphele for many many years, long before Agang and they have finally been able to find common ground.
If Agang goes it alone and survives it will be quite astonishing.
 
I don't know. On the one hand - she has a track record that immediately gained my support.
But either she left the party she formed without consulting them - to further her own ambitions - which makes her a look like a bad leader, who has only her interests at heart.
Or she left the party because it was not going in the direction she intended it to go - which also makes her look like a bad leader that couldn't handle her own party.

If I have to ask myself if I would want her to be president - I'd have to say no. Obviously the DA won't get majority to do that. What I expected was for the ANC to lose their 50% majority in this election and the main opposition parties to be Agang and the DA.

Now, I'm not that sure that will happen.
 
I don't blame them for being upset. I heard her talk to Xolani yesterday and she really doesn't sound very convincing when asked why she went about this move the way she did. At one point she even starts attacking the ANC when asked if she moved because Agang is falling apart, I was really disappointed in her in that interview. I held so much respect and hope for her. She obviously can't go back but she should just have joined the DA to start with.

Now it looks like the only winner of this mess is the ANC. The DA leaders who were overlooked for this parachuting are pissed off, Agang is pissed and so close to elections. Let's hope they have a plan to go campaign hard and not give the ANC any more ammo. Now the ANC only has to worry about the votes they will lose to Malema, all others they can brush aside.

Maybe the ANC should put in a counter-offer :whistle:

Well, to be honest....only read this morning, that she never informed her party of her decision. Not to sure, how I feel about it....but for sure, Agang is royally screwed! Interesting...at the moment, I think, its a nett lose for the opposition as a whole...once passion lessen, and the dust settles...will see the lay of the land....

Sometimes South African politics is so shallow. We are fighting for the future of our country, but some people will jeopardize that because they feel PERSONALLY offended that they were not consulted. Thats the depth of their politics. Instead of fighting about policies or fighting for jobs or any of the serious issues. It comes down to a handful of people feeling their pride was hurt so they are willing to risk everything for that pride.

So sad.

Then Agang was doomed from the start as it appears they never had any real leadership structures to begin with. I heard the Dr. call some guy who claims to be their leader in GP an EFF "plant". Go figure.

Sadly. Yes. This reminds me of one year in Midvaal. Just before the elections the DA and VF got into a mud-slinging match about allegations that the local VF ward member was planning to walk over to the ANC after the election.
I had planned to vote DA local. Voted COPE instead.

I don't know ghoti. If I had put in time and money and energy into making Agang work I would be pretty pissed off. It's not just about people feeling PERSONALLY offended that they were not consulted, it's a feeling of betrayal that everything you worked for is suddenly gone, with no warning whatsoever. A lot of people donated a lot of money to Agang, are they going to get their money back? What about the time they dedicated and the hard work they put into it and they were not even informed?
 
Nothing boring about the upcoming elections. Plenty of material for Zapiro, Jerm, Shucks and the rest of them.
