I guess it depends if some people can put their country before personal politics. Takes big people to work next to people that dont 100% agree with your view. Its not for everyone.

Putting your country before personal politics should not involve stabbing your supporters in the back.
Had Ramphele joined the DA at the outset I would have had no issues. But the way she has gone about this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. She reminds me of any other politician. And no amount of spin is going to change that in the eye of the ordinary South African. People will simply view her as a sell-out and they will be right.
There was a right way and a wrong way to go about this. She chose the wrong way.
You speak shallow politics, Im more concerned about issues like jobs, economic policies, welfare, etc. But yeah, if you are the type of person who cant put personal politics aside for the sake of your country then Agang2.0 is the perfect place for you.
Got a mail from Agang this morning and its clear that a handful of top leadership took this drastic decision without consulting with the rest of the party. Their excuse is that the deal was struck 24hrs before and thus there was not enough time to notify everyone. Which is BS IMO, when they issued the press conference invite, the least they could have done is inform regional leaders as well
Ironically, there are some concern in the DA as well. Not even most provincial MPs knew this was coming. I think they are meeting in Feb and Helen will be held accountable if the party does not buy into this.
But honestly, most DA members are very rational and realize Helen and Mamphela are a powerful duo. They seem to share core principles. Even if this did not happen, it was going to be logical that future coalitions were going to form between the DA and Agang. The two parties shared almost identical views.
Now South Africans have a choice. Mamphela or Zuma as their next president. Whats it going to be SA?
But honestly, most DA members are very rational and realize Helen and Mamphela are a powerful duo. They seem to share core principles. Even if this did not happen, it was going to be logical that future coalitions were going to form between the DA and Agang. The two parties shared almost identical views.
Now South Africans have a choice. Mamphela or Zuma as their next president. Whats it going to be SA?
So, if the DA decided to work with EFF and PAC, you would be cool with it?

Lets face it. But for the majority of South Africans - shallow politics is how they perceive it, and how they will vote
She's damaged goods now.
That's exactly why we have no restrictions to entering parliament. Having a "diverse" party of mismatched ideologies was never the intent. I will only vote DA because I don't have faith in upstarts in their first election.

I dont think so, Im really not getting that other than from a handful of hardliners. Most Agang and DA members I am personally in touch with are getting along well.
One day there will be a socialist party you can support (that is not run by a bunch of idiots)

I'm not keen on voting for a morally bankrupt individual who doesn't pay their staff, but pays themselves.
I'm not keen on voting for an individual that creates reform for only the RICH.
I'm not keen on voting for an individual who abuses BEE tenders and business practices to become rich, whilst the poor starve.
I'm not keen on voting for an individual who can't even run her own parties finances, but is being proposed to potentially be in charge of those of our country.
I'm not keen on voting for an individual who joins the DA without even consulting her party and one who clearly lacks in the leadership department.
I'm seriously disenfranchised with the DA right now.

Anyway (and this is not a troll) it seems to me that many people will see this as Ramphele putting her personal politics ahead of the people who supported her. She realised Agang might not get her to where she wants to be and so she jumped ship.

That's the problem with looking at it from the outside. We don't know the whole story and have to make assumptions.
But the problem is that voter politics is 50% perception.
