Telkom field staff abused overtime system

Clearly this has never happened in my area... Because I have never seen a Telkom techie EVER work on a weekend. Just does not happen, and as always your line conveniently breaks on a Friday afternoon.

Happens a lot in my area.. but nowhere nearly as bad as the municipal contractors.

I've never ever ever seen them work during the week, sometimes on a Saturday, but more often than not on a Sunday...

I'm the reverse.... they ONLY work weekends in our area.

I don't know because I can't remember the last time I had a call out :D

/Loves my area and line and exchange

Jeez I figured EVERYONE who has a Telkom line knew this was what was happening?

And I say by all means let them do it and pay them the overtime because their service delivery has never been better.

"Telkom field staff abused overtime system"

I read the article and dont see any evidence of what the heading says :wtf:

They are electronically dispatched and their vehicles are tracked .

Added to the above the last few Telkom technicians who came to our offices were also tracked by their work cellphones.
Everything is done to a T and there is very little room for skelming.

We are based in Cape Town btw

And you will probably find that those techies are not a local but have been "imported" from one of the coastal cities to help out their inland "overworked" colleagues.

do all the techies carry passports to aid the movement or can the Western Cape do its thing ...

100% correct. Tracked via cellphone sim, notebook dongle's sim and vehicle tracker...

“Field force agents need to make some visits after hours and on weekends as that is the only time some people are at home,” Altman said.

That would only be true if Telkom's field technicians made a habit of making appointments with customers.

My experience is that Telkom technicians mostly appear on weekends (mostly Sundays) and never personally call to make an appointment.

The telkom techie in my area always works on weekdays, home or business. There has only been one case where he has ever come on a weekend and that was at my request.

Great guy actually, very efficient and willing to help so I even have his cell number now and know him on a personal basis. He is one of the main reasons I don't complain much about telkom, the call centre staff on the other hand are pathetic :wtf:
