So I've searched the forums and know availability isn't such a huge issue, but selection still seems to be? VDSL modems available locally apparently are only:

- Pace 921VNX (telkom's choice and allegedly not great)
- Billion BiPAC 8200N (availability not certain? the link on myBB forum does not work?)
- ZyXEL VMG1312-B, SBG3300-N and P-2812HNU-Fx
- Netgear DGND3800B (availability not certain? and the 'B' means it is Annex B / ISDN line only?)
- Draytek Vigor 2750 and 2860 (availability not certain?)

I've also been told Afrihost might be considering Netgear or Huawei VDSL units for resale, but practically it seems after a year of VDSL one can only choose between Pace and ZyXEL.

Is anybody out there using anything else currently for VDSL, or does anyone have more updated information?

Stay away from the ZyXEL - I've had to send mine in twice to get replaced and fixed..

sorry to hear, because then both of the only two brands freely available have bad reports against them :(

anyone using anything other than ZyXEL or Pace???

MWEB FON Router is missing from the list.

Technicolor TG589vn V3.

cool, thanks everyone, looks like the makings of a comprehensive list we've got here, at least at this point in time :)

That Asus DSL-N66U modem doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere, I have the Mweb Fon router and it is working fine so far. Hopefully I'll be connected to VDSL today, just waiting for confirmation on the line upgrade but can't get through to 10210 for some reason.

Can the Mweb Fon router only be used with Mweb ADSL accounts (ie. network locked) ?

gah, ended up buying from axxess, fyi the behemoth price effectively DOUBLED between the website price and the final order price, so i cancelled that mofo!

I have been using the Pace 921VNX for almost a year now... it is by far better than any others I have used. I have a few of my clients using them, and haven't had one problem yet. Personally, I am not a fan of any of the new Netgear routers... All the new black range continually give problems and lock-up... they also suffer from disconnects, etc. Huawei, in general, seems to be about the nicest workhorses around. Even Telkom recommends them for use on their network - not like that's anything to go by :p

Agree. I have one, it's solid as a rock. I've never had to restart it due to it freezing.
