'Chameleon' - the computer virus that spreads through Wi-Fi

Time to create a wifi aerial facemask to sell to paranoid old people.

This really doesn't sound feasible.

I'm going to assume its some extremely garbled tech explanation, where they actually infect the wifi routers (eg the AP's).
There are plenty of attacks in that space already.

Doesn't really work unless you have a very homogenous network setup hardware wise, unless they have a multi faceted approach with multiple attack vectors.

Doable, but not that viable.

It is the stuff of cyber nightmares: an undetectable virus that moves through the airwaves.

They have shown, for the first time, that wi-fi networks can be infected via their access points, rather than computers – living not in the internet, but in the wi-fi space.

Made it sound like something in the air catching hold of the wireless signal & infecting it .. then tells us it's via the access points.

The sensationalism that can be spun into a far stretched story like this is gold for news sources that troll for impressions. Or Imp as I like to say.

I saw the point as being that in areas with multiple adjacent wifi networks, the virus spreads from wifi network to wifi network and could do so very rapidly to cover a large portion of a city before a computer detected it. With a delayed-action payload, this could be devastating. The concept has been demonstrated to broaden our minds about what to expect in future rather than simply to highlight a specific threat.
