Hello

Wondering if anyone else in Durbanville area in Cape Town is also experiencing heaving constant shaping by Afrihost

Website speed is fine, and streaming is normal. Downloads and P2P is non existing.

Images from 5March to 9March. Afrihost analyzes each hour, so images are from different hours.

Not sure if it's related, but my speeds on afrihost in cape town (sea point exchange) have decreased by 50% on 2 seperate 10MB capped lines. Ever since they gifted capped account and doubled their data, speeds have gone to ****.

@hoektoe, yes indeed. I have also sent numerous emails to support with the standard reply of "we recreated the port blah blah".... my line is with them to by the way. This is a Speedtest result when things were good:
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3315719609

At the moment general browsing is fine and YouTube streams okay too ... but P2P downloads are erratic, between 50kbps up to 1055Mbit/s... never constant nor consistent. Current Speedtest result:

I was wondering if all this free bandwidth Afrihost gave away is impacting on my general experience of their service?

Exact same problem, but in PE (line + 100gig bundle)

Since the data promo - speeds appear throttled on my 10meg line.

NNTP shows 60-70% of line speed during the day and full speed after midnight.

Speedtests were perfect, 8+Mbps now they are the same as yours.

Also did the whole "we reset your port thing" and I've done it myself.

Something is up - that's for sure.

@hoektoe I tried to look for the Account Overview images you posted from the AH client zone in mine and couldn't see it, please let me know did it thanks.

My Speed has also suddenly dropped to 10kb/s everyday the whole day up 2am. I speculated that it started about a week ago.

My Client zone pictures are the same. What is happening? I eventually mailed support, but I am waiting for a response still.

Oddly my line is sorted again so maybe they are rotating congestion to alleviate the load?

I came to this forum looking for answers and saw a lot of circle jerking in other threads about how great Afrihost is so I went through the effort of signing up just so I could post this comment.

My Afrihost account has been terrible these last 2 or 3 months. I cancelled at the end of last month so just waiting to finish so I can move onto another ISP. I have a 2meg uncapped that is heavily shaped more than 80% of the time since their doubling of bandwidth to capped customers.

I've downloaded 55gigs this month and have been mostly shaped down to less than 10kb/s for at least 2 weeks now. The shaping started in the first few days of the month after I had done around 20gigs. Occasionally they let the speed back up to half speed (usually between 1am and 7am) but most nights it’s not worth leaving my PC on in the hope that the speed might pick up.

On contacting support they gave me a copy paste response asking if other services (browsing etc.) were effected. I replied saying I was being systematically shaped and either they did not know this was happening (not acceptable) or they did know and were just paying me lip service and wasting both my time and theirs. The next response was "You are currently being shaped - please wait on downloading until the network regulates as we are currently receiving high demand of data on Business Uncapped Clients and Capped accounts."

So basically I'm paying R300 for around 70gigs (if I even manage that much this month with such slow speeds) and with the ability to download maybe 7 days out of the month. I'm in Seapoint.

Hi Guys,

If you are looking for a P2P service, try out AfriCentral. www.africentral.co.za. Check out the dedicated P2P services on the home page. Also, this ISP lists the specs of the ADSL accounts. Something nobody else does.

And two days later downloads trickle in at 10kbps again... meaning Afrihost put me back in the naughty corner again.
@AFRIMAN, @AFRIGIRL...why are your replies not seen in this post yet in other posts on this very forum you are extremely active ??????????

My thoughts exactly. I was initially tempted to post in the other threads where they were punting Afrihost but figured it would be bad form. Also crawling along at less than 10kb/s off their news server. Might as well be on a 56k modem.

I had the normal 4mb uncapped. In Durbanville area too.

Was shaped to death most of the time except after 12pm.. sometimes evern after 12pm too.

In the end my only way forward was to get business uncapped. This runs amazingly! Then two weeks ago or less they gave double data and I suddenly got slow speeds on my business account. Even p2p was very slow.

So the result? I downgraded to 50gb capped which should take effect next month. Then in retrospect I was like screw this and requested to cancel my account.

So as of next month I am looking at webafrica or axxess. Webafrica more so for my gaming.

I am very tempted to request the double my money back feature..
