Hello people of mybroadband. I haven't really posted here before, but this time I need some advice. I've been going out with my boyfriend for about 3 months and last Friday was my 21st birthday. Now I got a lot of nice gifts from everyone and as it was my 21st I expected my bf to get me something really special, but he only got me a teddy bear. I'm really disappointed, and I was so embarrassed especially since my ex got me a far better gift. I'm thinking of getting back with my ex, but I don't want my current bf to think it was because my ex got me a better gift. I know he's going to think it's because he's just lost his job, but I really can't help that. How do I let him down gently?

Tell him the truth, that you think his gift sucked and you don't want to carry on dating him because he is now unemployed. He will think you're a bitch for the rest of his life but at least he won't wonder what the hell he did wrong.

I honestly pity both of them, you sound like a real piece of work ;)

I'm really not shallow. I thought there were guys here who would be able to tell me how to handle it. Never mind.

Go back to your ex and save your current boyfriend the pleasure of knowing what a materialistic bitch you really are.

Or unless you are a hyper butch dude who took offence at your boyfriend getting you such a "girly" gift

You do realise that 99% of the people here are guys don't you? That being said i agree with them everybody's better off without you.
 
Maybe he had a family emergency that required him to spend all his money to help them out a& he didn't feel like now was the time to tell you about it? Maybe he had to hire a hitman? Maybe he thought his love was enough? Maybe he's saving for the ridiculously lavish wedding he knows you're expecting of him?
