Your DStv installation may need some changes in future

Here we go again..

So greedy, now to compensate for the losses due to Netflix and Hulu they're going to force people to buy that effing Explora.

My netflix requires me to pay how much to enjoy new features & content wait for it, 20Mb worth of an update.

won't be a problem have been dstv free for 3years now

...please don’t contact the call centre to find out if your installation is future proof. They won’t be able to help you at this stage.
So nothing has changed at all?

If you pay the beast, you deserves its ramming. Vaseline not included.

"But sports' very important for me..."

Yeah, as said, pay up for the ramming privileges sans lubrication.

"But ANC isn't bad... * keeps on voting ANC *"

huh? Did you even read the article. You dont need a new decoder, perhaps a different LNB or more cables, in most cases no change actually from what I could tell.

Been free since Nov 2012 and noticed yesterday they have been debiting my account R72 since. Sent them a harsh email. Fkn thieves.

One of the reasons I always refuse to switch to debit order's.

What exactly does this mean?

"Connect 4 cables to the DStv switch and then use the relevant outputs from the switch to the decoders" (Explora and single view decoder)

Do I need to get another two cables to come from the dish? Which would then mean I need a quad LNB vs the dual I currently have?

Well played Multichoice, well played.

Winning 25-0 in a game that no one else is even allowed to play in.

Logic please
Inside information- some people in SA make insane profits on STBs. I know who they are but if I mention it here I will have people knocking on my door.
Multichoice makes a lot of money, as does a few well-connected individuals.

This is an old sport, they always come with an "upgrade required" thing whenever a new decoder comes out. They are pushing sales of the Explora harder than they did the previous one, because they want to render the previous one obsolete soon. The ads are in your flippen face all the time. I have seen this happen numerous times but not so severely as now. They are making a substantial profit on the Explora, because its locally manufactured. The previous PVR (which I have) is made for DSTV by Pace, which is a UK company.

The Explora is a minor upgrade to the previous model, they've basically just made the menus better (but still nowhere near as good as it can be- not surprised given the TOTAL LACK of embedded talent in SA) and it has a massive hard disk. From the one I have played with, not much to write home about.

I have the SD & HD PVR with extraview... I read the same as you, a Quad LNB needed.. Currently have a Dual LNB with a multiswitch.

Yes, in a few years... They are just preparing people for the future. You don't have to do it now, but if your twin LNB goes faulty, think about replacing it with the quad and running the 2 cables.

Not immediately. New installs must be done with a quad, even though 2 cables will be sufficient for a few more years. As mentioned above, do think about changing to a quad, should your current LNB go faulty in the next year or 2.

This is all about satellite capacity and using all 4 polarities, instead of the 2 currently used. It is so they can offer more content, especially HD. This has nothing to do with the STB's. Please put away your tinfoil hat.
