3D printing: fast becoming a technology of note

3D printing will reach a tipping point over the next three years as the market for relatively low-cost 3D printing devices continues to grow rapidly and industrial use expands significantly. New industrial, biomedical and consumer applications will continue to demonstrate that 3D printing is a real, viable and cost-effective means to reduce costs through improved designs, streamlined prototyping and short-run manufacturing.

My daughter is already incorporating 3D print in her fashion design for custom jewelery.

I want but they are still too expensive and I'm too lazy to build one.

Hey,

I been looking to get a 3D printer, but it is proving quite difficult. There aren't many retailers locally, and the few that do sell them keep very limited stock and range. It's not like going into Incredible Corruption to browse. I am nervous committing R20000 on and advert or salesman on the other end of a phone. The DIY printers are a lot cheaper, but the time investment, and the fact that the printer will only be as good as the person building it puts me off.

Has anybody taken the plunge or can recommend a good place to buy from? Price point is always an issue, but I am happy to pay more in the knowledge that help/support is a phone call away.
