Telkom has revoked all ISP's access to stabilize lines?

Hi

Is this true?
I asked my ISP to stabilize my line and they replied that you have to log a fault with Telkom, since ISP's aren't allowed to do it anymore, due to a new system being implemented at Telkom.

Guess I have to wait a week or more now for my line to be stabilized.

Do you mean a Port Reset issued from the ISP's end or rather submitting a report of an actual line fault on your behalf to Telkom?

That would be correct. ISP's now have to open faults to stabilise lines to different sync profiles.

I can't say this is unexpected. The support staff at our ISP pushed us up to max line speed more than once when we phoned for a query regarding something different, just because they were trying to be nice. This stuffed us up to no end with sync issues. I would pop onto the clientzone to see what was going on only to find us attempting to sync at 10Mb instead of 6Mb where we were stable. You don't expect it to change, so when you have disconnects and a telkom tech comes out, they are frustrated to no end when it's just a sync speed issue.

Ye, not surprised. Telkom usually only syncs your line if they know for a fact it can handle it re: distance and noise. With ISP's in the mix, I get why the perception of line quality went down the tubes

I have settled at 2048, tried 3092 and 4096 but they simply don't work.
So I will only change my synch, the moment Telkom, in its infinite wisdom decide to up that synch

(they seem to get it right, sometimes) **

Is this to do with the configuration problems with the new ASSIA system at Telkom?

This ASSIA system really seems to be breaking everything even more than it already was. All our lines have gone into interleaving mode (which adds base latency) and are ironically less stable now than before. PPP sessions randomly dropping or becoming unresponsive. Less than optimal line sync which does not improve after a modem reset like before, etc...

Lost hope for a stable ADSL line. Just waiting patiently for fibre

I'v been on 4mb for over 5 years. Stable. No issues. Arrived back from holiday to discover my line is now 3mb and the line has degraded quite badly in terms of SNR. I hate Telkom. I'm so sick of dealing with this. I just want my stable 4mb back.

You should go to a fibre country and then say all I want for Christmas is my crappy 4mb line back. :P
