MTN losing out to Cell C

After this fiasco I most definitely will be moving operators, after 16 years.

tl;dr MTN has a service that can be provided for contract customers, but refuses (by policy) to implement it to let you know that you've depleted your data bundle and should buy another one. They're quite happy to let you go OOB to essentially charge you exorbitant prices for the same service.

They insist that this is because sometimes it takes a day for calls to reflect on the contract invoices, though when I enquired as to why when I dial 141 I am immediately told the amount available in the bundle.

Lies! Outright lies! You've lost my business for every you greedy f**kers!

You mentioned there that you are on an AnyTime contract. That is your first mistake, move to a MyChoice as it's cheaper.

Actually, though I don't remember the reasons, the AnyTime was a better option when we enquired about upgrading for my wife. It is a possibility, so I'll look into it.

Anyway, my contract is expiring in two months and I'm not sure I want to stay. Signal is s**t in this house, best I test out the other networks first.

I love Cell C's deals, but their network has been deteriorating a lot in BFN. Logged a ticket mid-January about crappy Data throughput. Still can't even run speedtest.net app on my phone since it's forever "Finding the best server" on full signal HSDPA. I really hope they get some deal signed with MTN as there's a MTN tower everywhere you look. Want to port to MTN but I really dislike their prepaid packages.

Who has the cheapest call rate in SA to all networks on prepaid. I have dual sim and my data is taken care of. Just need to sort out my call rate. Currently on Cell C 99c per minute, can I do better?

Yes, move to the Cell C 66c tariff. Dial *147# and reply 1.

I get the impression that Cell C's network is over subscribed which results in congestion. Cell C need to sort out this fast or they will bleed their newly acquired MTN customers to Vodacom. In my own case I moved from MTN to Cell C to Vodacom. The reason I moved to Vodacom is 1) because of their superior network and 4 G connection speeds and 2)introduction of Uchoose package which contain the OOB shark. Very happy with Vodacom so far.

Yes wise move,be sure to test other networks on prepaid for a month or two before you sign up any contracts with them.

Yep as Madhawk pointed out Cell C 66c....

Yup, test it out first. If you are considering a contract just get the contract but without a device. That way if you need to cancel it on MTN it's just one months subscription as cancellation fee. With a device they overcharge like crazy.

Been with MTN all my life.

ATM I am paying just under R160 a month for 100 minutes 100 sms and 300mb data, and have the LG G3.

Never had any real issues with MTN and their network cover is increasing in the areas i spend my time the most.

Okay thx guys I changed my tariff but whats the catch? Only the SUPACHARGE & MEGABONUS stuff? I never used it in anycase

Only catch is R2 per MB out of bundle and R2 per SMS to international numbers.

Just go to a Cell C store and buy the 3GB/365days voucher for R299 and your data needs are met.

I also have no use of mega and super stuff from Cell C. I am happy to be charged only 66c per minute to any network.

I'm happy with MTN. I'm on prepaid. Use a 2gb bundle and spend maybe another R100 on calls per month. But this is good. Can always do with less congestion:D

MTN is fine for voice, their data really sucks (stuck on EDGE most of the time).
Vodacom and Telkom are much better (LTE at least in my City).

Cell C is ... well mediocre.
