Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting the MacBook Air 13" through FNB. I'm not 100% sold on getting the MacBook Air mainly because I don't really need it.

I'm basically looking for a laptop that's reliable and that will last me a good couple of years. I won't be doing hardcore work on it as it will mainly be for personal use.

Is the MBA 13" a good buy?

Also, the FNB deal seems a bit too good to be true.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Best laptop you'll ever own. I had one last year, then decided to upgrade to a Macbook Pro and I honestly preferred working on the Air.

I only see the 11" MBA on FNBs site?

1.4ghz dual core Intel core i5 processor, 4gig ram and 128gb SSD hard drive for R579 pm.

I think this has been out for some time now.

I don't know if there are any hidden costs with fnb though. Still need to do some enquiries.

Trust me. They are. Used one a year ago or so and you run out of space very quickly.

All depends on how you use it. Both my Macs have had 128GB and never struggled. The most space normally gets used up in my downloads folder that I forget to clean out.

I don't store large files on the laptop, I've got NAS and cloud storage for that.

I've had a 13" air for about three years now, and with the specs still being the same I do see it being under-powered to last even the next year.

MBA is a glorified netbook

Have you ever used one for an extended period?

They are a pleasure to use if you need a day to day laptop. You're not going to be doing video editing or gaming on this thing (although you can do light loads of these).

I bought my first MBA over a year ago and still love the thing more than any other device or gadget I've ever had.

True about the 128gb capacity being restrictive though, so I bought a 128gb SD card which sits flush and lives in the machine which I store my iTunes library and a few movies and TV series.

Agreed. I don't intend to do gaming on it(that's what my consoles are for). I would like to do he odd video or photo editing but not major things.

I do travel a bit with my job and would prefer taking the MacBook with instead of my work laptop(huge). But I'm planning on only using it for personal day to day crap to be honest.

No comments on FNB?

I've got both mine from FNB. Best deal around.
