Hey all :)

I am now at wits end with AfriJoke and need a new ISP ...

I am currently using my line for downloads and gaming and it was fine with Afrijoke for a while but I just cannot do this anymore ... I have a 10mbps line and can barely do anything on it while my friends on a 4mbps line are doing what I do and more ...

I recently started streaming as well and twitch has never buffered this much before and I can almost never get 720P on youtube

I probably don't always have such high usage but I have had a few months where I went over 500GB and I do more than 300GB by the 15th of the month (slows down after that cause I have everything I want by then)

Who can you guys suggest that will fill the needs I have listed ?

All information would be greatly appreciated.
Regards.

Depending on your budget but I have had very little problems with WA.

I am currently live chatting with a WA consultant ... He says they shape and use a fair usage policy but cant tell me what the thresholds are (I asked but he is avoiding it)

WebAfrica thread shows that they also had issues yesterday.

I don't mind if ISPs have occasional issues ... but this constant issue that AH is having ... man it is making me grey way to early in my life

I was also thinking of this last night and every ISP has it's pro's and cons.

1) WebAfrica: nice prices but they have this star rating system and I don't want to get to the end of the month and can't stream video.
2) Openweb: I actually didn't have an issue with them, but our account was outperforming a family members more expensive account by almost 200%.
3) CrystalWeb: I've read only nice things about them and they are run by trustworthy forumites, however, they're a bit pricey when being compared against AH.
4) Afrihost: I trialled them on Friday, and on a 2mb line, I could stream a youtube video at 720p without any issues. I signed up on Friday and that's when their issues started, however, I know a lot of people personally who sing their praises.
5) MWEB: Throttling after 70GB, no thanks.
6) Telkom: Quite a lot of posts mentioning the throttling on torrents, no thanks.

From what I can gather, CW is like the gold pot, everyone wants a slice if you're willing to pay for it. AH has the cheapest entry level offering and I want to be cheap (because of their double data promotion), but I want that CW gold.

I was looking at a package suitable for a 2mb line that was unshaped.

I'm not sure what this means unless you are working around a strict budget where you can afford a 2Mbps Standard account. Standard accounts are for less demanding users, Premium for higher usage users.

We agree that the bandwidth is unshaped though, except for torrents during hours.

I moved from Afrihost to Webafrica a couple of months ago. At first it was great, 720p Netflix, HD BBC iPlayer etc. Now I often drop to 240P on Netflix, SD on iPlayer buffers :(
My exchange is fine, local speed tests are always close to line speed, but my international sucks. This has been ongoing for a week+.

Good Morning,

We prioritise gaming traffic on our network.

Why not put us to the test and decide for yourself.

Free 7 Day trial:

Hey Bighit, the 70GB threshold you are referring to.

That is found on out 2Mbps standard package, which is our package with the lowest threshold.

We recommend the premium shaped package for our gamers. Much more suitable.

im on a 4mb uncapped account with cyrtal web R429pm i think... not bad at all and the one time i called the customer line for assistance they were excellent and very knowledgeable.

would def recommend them.
