Elementary OS vs Windows 8

Suuuuuuuuuure!

Hehe, ok :D Guess I will go with this threesome /. /swap and /home. I've marked all of my media/data HDDs as logical and I will disconnect them when I start installing arch on my main for obvious reasons. Now I'm waiting for Stage 2 to come and go :D

So how was stage 2?

I thought only pensioners needed a tutorial on how to use an operating system ?

I see very little reason to use a swap partition, it's reserved space that is mostly wasted. PCs these days have plenty of RAM and if you do need swap just enable a swap file instead which is dynamic. I don't even use /home anymore, only / as the data is on a different drive and you can symlink to it.

Its worrying that these seemingly experienced IT folks here on mybb need a tutorial to get an operating system working :)

To be honest as a long time arch user I would have to read the arch wiki to install it these days. The arch installation method has changed a lot. Back in the day they had the ncurces based cli installer wich is relatively easy. These days you have to do everything manually, chroot etc It's more like a gentoo installl now.

...arch linux is on and it sure is looking good with plasma 5

I'm done with Windows 8/10 for real. I'm totally in love with Arch Linux. I feel so blessed today.

Bewhare here be dragons...

You might find one of two issues if you are unlucky with plasma 5:

1. dual monitor settings not saving
2. wrath of alsa ;)

I had both and need to try my hand at plasma again. But this might also be because I used 340 lib instead of the latest nvidia, being just "nvidia" so take note.

Anyone of you using geary?

I have a relatively large email account and haven't found any client except for Outlook that can handle it. Thunderbird just comeplety bombs out.

I want to give geary ago

Elementary OS is based on Mac OS. Mac OS is great if you love Unix but want a nice looking GUI.
