Hello guys,

So recently I downloaded and installed Elementary OS, I do not have to much experience with linux so I was just wondering is there any reason at all why I should not format my pc and install Elementary as my primary OS and replace windows.

Does it run origin? only reason I still have a windows os on my other partition is for gaming... rest I can do fine with my mint installation. At least the push for steam os is helping, but it is not quite there yet.

The obvious first step is to check that there is no Windows-only software that you can not live without. If not then the road is clear.

To try it out have you installed this particular OS in a VM yet?

I read that Pantheon desktop, that makes Elementary looks like OS X, might be default in Fedora 22.

Out of curiosity I went to their site to download and try it. The first thing that they asked was for my email address and credit card number for payment. Clicking another option resulted in them asking for my phone number.

This is totally against the spirit of the Linux community. If donations are asked for then it is mentioned rather than having a paywall in place. It is probably possible to specify a zero payment, but I decided that was I was not interested anymore.

The clincher was their blog post, where they state "an entire operating system that has taken years of development and refinement is worth funding". This OS is a derivative of Ubuntu, but they don't mention how much of the money will passed on to Canonical (I suspect none).

erm i thought you already replaced all four windows installs?

Summary

Pantheon Desktop is a new desktop environment being developed by the people that develop Elementary OS. It is written from scratch using Vala and the GTK3 toolkit. With regards to usability and appearance, the desktop has some similarities with GNOME Shell and Mac OS X.
Benefit to Fedora

Will allow users another choice on what desktop they want to run, will help bring more users to Fedora.
... would have been released as a spin if ready.

Busy testing Fedora 22 beta workstation and it's still good old Gnome 3 :)

Only strange thing I found wrong with Elementary OS so far is that the screenshot tool refuses to take shots of a selected window. It takes the window and quite a bit around it. Works fine in regular Ubuntu.
