Hey guys so my first pc problem has arrived, my pc is just under a year old sigh. The other day i bought insurgency because of the steam summer sale and left it on to download and there was no load-shedding forecast. I came home to discover the power tripped and my pc in the dark.

So by then the download had finished but mid game the pc restarts.

I did an update of windows defender, antivirus etc and did a virus scan, tried unplugging the other pc in the office which was on the same plug.

I also monitored my pc temperatures, all pretty normal.

I gamed for a few hours on cs go initially and then took a gamble with Dota and it was fine.

Today however havent even played a game yet and the browser froze and even when I pressed cntrl alt delete nothing. Then the screen went blue with a message saying windows has encountered a problem or something then it restarted and said select boot drive which I couldnt do so I turned the pc off and on again. Now I am typing to you folks. This error has happened once or twice in the past 3 months or so but I thought it would be chilled after I saw it work again.

Guys any help would be greatly appreciated, I dont even know how I must go about taking my pc to have it looked at when I built this rig myself from takealot and wootware. I can imagine a shop technician just telling me "na thats definitely broken" if it isn't.

what Im guessing could be wrong is psu or ram, or maybe a hdd? I have my OS on solid state and my games and other crap on a mechanical.

Sounds like a driver issue.

Your graphics card drivers updated?

My guess was going to be temperature, but it could also be power related, I had a similar issue when my power supply was not quite beefy enough for a new Graphics card.

Might be a temp problem in the PSU (about a year it needs to be blown out).

It would help a great lot if you could write down the particular error message, since you can then google the cause of it.

HD - Nvidia?

Nope it's AMD

Specs:

As Rock z97 Pro4
i5 4690
Crucial 128gb ssd
1tb Barracuda hdd
AMD R9280x gpu
Corsair gs600 psu
G Skill Sniper 1866 8gb Ram

I have not dusted out the psu should I do so? My pc appears clean inside and temps are normal.

When it happens again i will write down whatever it says however the last time it just gave the blue screen with the unhappy face (running windows 8.1) and it said system has encountered an error.

I will update my drivers and see.

I might add I recently updated my sound drivers on my pc so maybe that screwed something up

Ok to add: Checked gpu drivers, they are up to date.

I have never updated my bios before, read online that you should. I duno, I would think its not really needed.

I am going to run memtest and see what happens

Download bluescreenview, install it and upload a screenshot of the bluescreen properties.

Your PSU/mobo is probably the culprit. Run IntelBurnTest at Very High level.

Thank you I downloaded it, do I run it the whole time in the backround until the pc crashes?

No, every time you have a bluescreen, its details gets saved to a file, bluescreenview opens that file so you can see what happened.

Do you get a BSOD or does it just do a simple restart and then says windows did not shut down properly and gives you the options for start up?

It just happened now when in cs go. Pc just restarts and boots up again. Looked for bluescreen file and theres nothing there.

Just restarted and booted up again, no options for start up just straight to password screen

Sounds like the PC is losing power somewhere then.

Do you have a spare PSU to try?
