Hi All;

so as per all the suffering with my car, Ive deciced to sell my car privately and see whats the best price
I can get for it,

and Im really not impressed by what they offer me; its a joke right, thats almost nothing,

my car details:
2010 kia picanto with 104404 on the clock, no service book and brought on auction,
but well maintained, ECU changed, Engine sorted out, as many stock parts as possible, and runs well for what I need it for;

looks as stock standard as they come, all the CR@p been taken off it, so its as stock basic is you can get,
suspension changed back to stock,exhuast replaced, hole patched up, new tires

so SMD auctions offer me 26K for it!!!!!!! tried another dealer in Boxsburg, offer me 24K for it?
this is ridiculous prices, I mean is my car worth that little with no service book? or do dealers try their luck and see who desperate enough to get rid of their car;

should I try post here? I mean another forumite sold a older same model picanto for 74K and his was a year older than mine;

what do you guys do when selling your car, sell privatly or do AA autocheck or similar?
we buy cars or something similar to that?

SMD auctions...I lolled.

Problem is also that no one cares about all you've done to it. No service book, so you've lost a bunch of credibility there as well.

That said, 26k for the car is way too low. You should be able to get almost double that I reckon. R45k would be a good price for a private buyer in my opinion.

Sell it privately to a private buyer if you want the best price but be very very weary of whom and what you are dealing with.
Depending on the aftermarket parts and condition you should be looking for about R50-55K

Put it on gumtree and other free sites and see what offers you get.

I tried to sell my golf for a long time a couple of years ago. As soon as I put it on gumtree, I got the offers.

Just be vigilant for scammers.

thats still reasonable, 50-55K, covers all the repairs nicely; no profit but still acceptable

another member sold his Picanto same model,same colour as mine but older year model, for 74K which is almost as high as one could get for it;

true he had a service book for his, but it was a older model 1 year less than mine, and less KM's on it;
am I simply looking in the wrong places? should I try the dealer that the one forumite used, as he did tell me where he sold his to;

its in Alberton someplace, I have it on a PM from him,

I think the service book is a pretty big deal. Not saying you're lying about the car having a full service history, but can you prove it? That would make a huge difference to me. I wouldn't lower the price to R26k, I would just refuse the purchase and look somewhere else.

That is just me though...

Dealers will always offer you low values...

but I was expecting something resonable, I mean the guy checking his validation book and offers almost nothing,

whats the statistic? 20% for each year or something like that;
when new car went for 94K, and now after 5 years 50-60K is reasonable at least;

I know service book is a big deal, never got one for it, as it was auction,
and on kia system only 1 entry there for my car for an inspection at 89K no other service records, even when it was with europcar
so dont know what to say anymore,

Tread on tires? Cost of servicing the vehicle before reselling. Detail on the car (as in getting a factory new clean). Adds up. These are the things you can leave out when selling privately.

If someone reasonably competent viewed your car, did you bother to ask them why they offered such a low figure? Having read some of your KIA tales, perhaps they saw things you might not be aware of - signs of prior repairs and such.

Not having a maintenance record for such a relatively recent model would count against you quite heavily. Add an obviously repaired panel or three into the equation...

see thats funny as tires are new, just serviced with everything, had a reasonable car wash,
was quite dirty from sitting for a month and a half waiting for a working ECU;

what else? I mean its a joke what they offer, get better value if I sold the car in bits, for spares,
if only I had a yard outside Id do exactly that, make some cash from this POS.

no accidents, and was simply so angry I didnt ask him,
aslo just now whatsapped a guy from SMD, thought id get some action from him, seems they want to rip people off;

Ones in excellent condition sell for R55-60k.

From what we've heard yours isn't in excellent condition and doesn't have a service book. So the price sounds pretty fair to me.

yes I agree on no service book, but fixed everything else up,
almost done full restoration on it,

ive seen picantos older than mine go for more with much much more KM's even without a service book,

I think the price is a bit low but not far off.

Reasons:
1. Not a high value car to start off with.
2. No service book.
3. Its had modifications.
4. Car has had problems.
5. KM although not high, not amazing.
6. Dealer overheads to resell.

All things considered I can understand. Try sell privately but please be upfront about the issues, resolved or not.

Then sell privately and wait for the right offer. Dealers need to add commission and all kinds of BS. its like taking a R2500 (insert product name here) to cash converters and being offered R20 for it.
