Come on people...are there just not Kempton Park people on the forum or are you all just happy with SlowDSL? :)

I have completed "Enquiry" on the website. I am Glen Marais, not sure if this will be counted in the same areas mentioned.

I think if we push hard enough we can get it in Kempton as general. I'll find out a bit - but at least now were two :)

I'm the other side of the railway line - got about 25 people interested inside our enclosure in Allen grove, but not there yet - I approached them and they said no go. This despite the fact that half the roads in our area have DFA fibre on them as well (although I have been told this is 'business fibre')

- see http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/795861-Service-Providers-Who-want-to-supply-FTTH-in-Allen-Grove-Kempton-Park?p=16987183#post16987183

In a nutshell, my perception is you sort of need 30% uptake (Just look at Vumatel website to get an idea of their business model) and if you are on really big stands (the distance to each stand is further), I suspect that number could climb to more like 40-50% before it makes economic sense for them

I now just feel like..why must I do their marketing or business development...Um, I'm not! If you want my money for your services bring it to my house and convince me why your service will be better than what I am using now.

Supply and demand. Atm, the demand for Fibre is higher than the supply. Thus companies can go where they know the money is, or rather where the interest is. It becomes a competition and that is why companies rely on the community to come to them. They are assured of covering the high capital expenditure, and also the risk is largely reduced, so they don't have to worry to much about loosing the capital investment.

The bigger challenge for them comes in when a community approached multiple fibre providers. I have personally seen, how once a fibre provider heard another one was also entering the race, it immediately just gave up.

Yep, under supply at it best - why try to fight at all, just work on another area where there is no competition and maximize return

Two houses that would be interested, close to Laerskool van Riebeeck Park.

I'm a bit late to the party... But what's going on here?

I know a couple of people who want Fiber, mostly because telkom's ADSL is **** and expensive (all in Norkem/Birchleigh/Van Riebeeck area).

they don't care about your business but you care about their services

so you do the maths about who needs who more

also if you had any sort of sense, you would sign up as an agent of Cybersmart and thus actually profit from establishing demand

if you don't need them that bad why bitch that they don't care about a customer that doesn't need them

We as FREDD are currently investigating the feasibility of bringing Fibre To The Home in the Edleen area and thereafter branching out to the Van Riebeeck Park areas.

We are having a marketing/questions and answers day on 20 August in the Edleen Park from 10am to 2pm (Cryptomaria, Angelier, Salixterrace streets). So feel free to stop by and ask any fibre/internet service related questions that FREDD could offer.

Visit our website for more info www.fredd.co.za

thinking of giving them a try. will go to the questions day on the 20th and decide from there

EDIT:
after reading some more on the forum i think i might go with cisp.co.za
