Hear yee Hear yee AORUS X7 Pro-sync shout out/Review

Hi Guys,

Just to share my experience and pleasure working with the guys at AORUS and the machine itself.

I recently had the pleasure of upgrading my old machine to something to fit my now older and newer self, I used to be an out and out hardware enthusiast going for top end desktop machines but due to my now busier lifestyle i looked into something a bit more mobile but still give me the desired warm feeling when switching on a machine with raw power. I proceeded to post a couple of question regarding powerful laptops here in mybb to find out what your experiences was and through the post the AORUS people contacted me and so my journey has begun.

I did some research, played around on friends Asus rog etc but after a while and reading reviews decided on going with the AORUS x7 Pro-sync. Sic beast of a machine Arrived about 2 weeks ago and i must say i love it beyond compare to anything i've seen. Clean cut look, premium feel, never happier. Thanks to the AORUS guys for making the decision as easy as possible, they really helped to get a good price and even sent some gifts when the rep came to SA for the rage expo. I also promised them I will give them a bit of a review when i have the time

Now to give a honest review without being biased.

CPU: 2.5GHz Intel Core i7-4870HQ | Graphics: 2 x Nvidia GTX 970M SLI + Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200 | RAM: 16GB | Screen: 17.3-inch, 1,920 x 1,080 Wide Viewing Angle G-Sync LCD | Storage: 512GB SSD + 1T HDD | Connectivity: Wireless LAN: 802.11ac + Bluetooth 4.0 | Camera: 1MP HD camera | Weight: 6.6 pounds | Dimensions: 16.85 x 12 x 0.9 inches

I'm not going to do a full review with benchmarks but i will however give a honest opinion, for benchmarks please see the many reviews, and believe me when i say, the machine is that powerful if not more.
I really like the premium feel of the product, the casing and look is as clean as can be and going for a costly machine this is exactly what you would expect. I did try competitors product and they always where way to flashy for a guy like me with lighting coming from every place possible

Performance wise i have not been more impressed,having built desktops my whole life you can feel the difference in a rounded machine like the x7, support wise they are really on top of it at AORUS, all hardware updates ect are available on their website, or through the update manager and you could find all you would like to know in their forums.

Now to get to the fun stuff..the only game i can comment on performance is Metro 2033 and last light redux. I played 2033 back in the day, so knew it was very hardware intensive and always wanted to try Last light. The game runs steady at 40-60fps on ultra, with gsync enabled all i can say is wow, the game has almost no load time and visuals is crazy smooth, never seen anything like it, if this is gsync please do yourselves a favor. I will continue to give performances on new games as they are released, next being fallout i guess. I also play a bit of dota 2 competitively so comfort is a must, and i'll say with the 17inch frame i cant ask for more.

Now to get to the negatives/positives:

Negatives: The machine does run loud and hot, the loudness dampening the speakers a bit as well. I must say personally that i don't give a damn, anything with this type of performance may run a bit loud and hot. I wear decent headphones so the sound is neglectable, also,where your palms rest is always cool and comfortable so it should not influence your gaming session at all. The heat levels also is not a problem as i've looked and the temp stays way below the 90 mark after heavy sessions, having it on your lap is a no no but otherwise all is good. Another small thing is the trackpad sucks, but who uses it anyway for more than 2min just to clarify, there are some machines that run cooler and softer like the ROG i tested.

Positives: This machine really is a beast wrt performance, boot times, load times are ridiculous. Performance in gaming is wow, i need to do more testing but for now...wow! Also for the money this machine justifies the cost, premium feel, support etc. The screen with gsync is also a pleasure, i'm not a forerunner for 4k panels as hardware arn't just there yet.

Conclusion: This machine really impressed me, all the way from the look, feel, performance and rounded hardware. I cant imagine a better performing laptop on the market, maybe softer and cooler and with more lights but thats it, this machine does not hide from that. And damn i cant wait to see their next lineup of machines with the SKYLAKE CPU's and the desktop power 980 in there...be quick about it boys

As an aside, it boggles the mind that Windows based hardware trackpads are so poor (comparing here to the brilliant Apple trackpads)

LOL yeah, trackpads click is stiff and difficult to find. But to tell you the truth, i never use the trackpad. Maybe once or twice for 5min at a time. I do have a proper laser mouse in the bag. My Gf has a macbook and if a good trackpad is a must, yeah go for apple products.

Total for the machine was about R37K. I know its a lot, but been waiting 15 years to justify buying something that expensive. Was scared that it would not live up to the hype but oh boy i was wrong. Great buy.

Loud and hot would bother me but I can see why, for your use case, it's not an issue.

Hi, just to give feedback on the trackpad. Its really not that bad, i did not however buy the machine for the trackpad (i use a proper gaming mouse) but its a bit sticky, so you get a "selfphone cover" type sticker to stick over, making it less sticky but the clicks are a bit clunky and with a weird/small area.

Still really not bad and you can use it for prolonged periods, its just not the same as a macbook or even a dell xps as what i also have but they feel a bit more premium. Hope this helps, but it should not defer anyone from buying the machine.

Also wrt the heat and noise from the fans, its really not annoying, its more of a Ferrari time hum you get used to it really quick and i also immerse myself in gaming when using headphones so no problem at all.

Hope this gives a bit more insight.

Now i really wanna get one ... lol ... the Ferrari sound , damn , just cant resist it.
