2016 Top Shares to Watch [Disclaimer: "by non-registered amateurs"]

[Disclaimer: "by non-registered amateurs"]

Okay, so after taking a look at all stocks on the JSE I have compiled a list of shares to watch in 2016. When I did this, I decided to look at only companies who increased by at least 30% in 2015. If these companies managed to withstand all economical difficulties we faced, this is only good signs for them. But also, I looked at past growth. These companies all experienced year-on-year growth for a number of years.

This is my list I will be looking at, please do your own research as well and do not only look at my reasons:

Isn't SAB going to disappear off the JSE?

Yes, but I included them for obvious reasons as they were part of this group of companies who outperformed all the rest on the JSE in terms of growth.

You didn't look at p/e ratio's to see who was already fully valued?

Toothless some of the companies you listed there Simon Brown also predicted that they will be the 2016 companies to look out for.

I did, but there are more important factors I looked for in these companies. There were quite a few I left out from this list too, mainly due to PE ratios and possible downfalls in 2016.

Nice, subbed :-)
Thank you Toothless

Pleasure! Just something to look out for next year :)

Thanks ActivateD, have not listened to Simon Brown's predictions, but I really think these are some of the best companies I would like to invest in for 2016.

Awesome list Toothless.

Already own some shares in a few of those companies, will do some research on the rest when I get some time (and money! :D).

Based on the portfolio in the OP, today would have increased my investment by 0.28%

Calgro = not too sure.. I think they a bit expensive now so growth not as much as it was from Jan 2015 to +/- October 2015? After that it's been up & down but mostly the same.. Same time I had DBX which made a lot due to currency devalue

Yeah, well, I do not invest in individual companies alone - perhaps only when I receive insider info on something that will impact the share price. That being said, as part of a portfolio, Calgro is a great decision for me. I think it will continue its growth in 2016, perhaps not a lot, like you said, but I am convinced it will grow.

It will be a good addition to any portfolio for a difficult year ahead on the markets.

I think I will follow Simon Brown's thinking and get ETF/stock of companies with international exposure. So far my DXBWLD is doing well and so now to find stock.

EOH? They would have made your list before the finance minister debacle. They were on 38% then, only 25% now.

EOH did well yes, but I was looking at specific companies and specific factors that showed they were able to grow despite ****ty government decisions, a slowing economy, international investors withdrawing, etc. What concerned me about EOH was the huge dip they took closer to the end of the year. There are a number of different factors that affected them, but yes, they did not make my portfolio for next year.

Not saying they will not grow, hell, they may even outgrow other companies on my portfolio, but I am looking at certain risks too.

EOH has been hit by the USD FX lately but ADI has and will continue to beat it. ADI has so much cash on hand and will make further acquisitions plus their income is cash upfront so in my view, this is a winner. The PE ratios are the same and are high but the cash ADI has puts it above EOH on the list.

Okay, so from my own list above, this will be my official 2016 portfolio I will invest in. I narrowed my own portfolio down to 9 companies, which I think will give me the best return on my investment over the course of the coming year. Here is mine:

Curro - COH
DBXWD - DBXWD
ADVtech - ADH
Sirius Real Estate - SRE
Montauk Hioldings - MNK
Trustco Group - TTO
Santova - SNV
Finbond Group - FGL
KAP Industrial - KAP

It's not that I do not like the others, I just thought to narrow my list down to more affordable shares to invest in and more easily manage my portfolio. Just made all my purchases this morning and will keep investing every month.

Edit: Okay, so on the first day things looks promising. With the Rand falling about 1% against the dollar today and most stocks ending in the red, including the top 40 indexes, my portfolio raised me 0,98% profit.

My second day raised my portfolio by 0.97%. Yesterday was quiet with very low trading and an early close on the JSE and the day ended at 0%.

So, last 3 days of December already gave me an almost 1.9% increase.

I'm keeping an eye on CURRO at the moment. In the last month their share price has increased from R49.90 to R57.98

That is an increase of R8.08 (about 15%) which is substantial imo.
