Welcome to MyBroadband’s first “Ask Anything” discussion, where Afrihost CEO Gian Visser will answer your questions.

There are some basic Ask Anything rules. A summary:

  • One question per post. If you have multiple questions, use multiple posts.
  • No personal attacks
  • No unsavoury questions
  • No trolling
  • No “Why don’t you answer my question?” posts
  • Keep it clean and civil, and ensure the discussion is constructive

Please post your questions in this thread. Gian will start to answer your questions at around 12:00 today.

As this is the first Ask Anything discussion, we are giving away three new Google Chromecasts to the three best questions, as selected by Gian.

What is the first thing the Afrihost directors did after you signed the contract with MTN?

What was the first thing you bought after you received the cash from the MTN acquisition in your bank account?

Do you have the same network as Axxess, or do you and Axxess manage your networks separately?

Do you consider the current broadband policies [or lack thereof] as well as execution [or lack thereof] of policies at various levels of government in SA [national; provincial; municipal|local], to be an enabler or a hindrance for network operators and ISPs in general [both fixed and mobile services]?

If you had an opportunity to try explaining to president Zuma how his government's broadband policy stuff-ups have severely affected businesses and consequently retarded economic growth, what "K.I.S.S." examples would you use?

What key steps should SA's national government be taking to accelerate broadband rollout and uptake nationally?

Do you use Afrihost as your main ISP at home?

Is Afrihost serious about education and do you see yourselves actively playing in this sector?

What other Fibre networks besides Telkom Fibre are you going to be rolling out your FTTH offering? Vuma, Frogfoot, Fibrehoods?

How did you decide on your company name ( ie. Afrihost)?

MTN have installed FTTH all over Sundowner and Northriding but aren't offering options yet.

Are you going to be the primary reseller for MTN FTTH packages and if so when are they going to come on sale?

In the process of your business growing "from your garage" to what it is now, at what stage did you go "**** just got real... this is gonna get big!!!" ?

One of the big problems many people face in our country with adsl is a lack of speed. Most suburbs can only get up to 4mb.
How does an individual get that increased?
