ABSA downtime planned – details

Didn't receive any notification here either, although I only have a credit card with them but do have internet banking activated.

Got my sms this morning.... will post screenshot.

I got an sms even though I no longer bank with them. Not sure why they're keeping my number on their system ?

Probably trying to implement their anti money laundering systems...

why does ABSA do this? FNB upgrades systems all the time, but they never go down......

"Never" :rolleyes:
Some upgrades require downtime, some don't. iirc FNB has it in deep within their T&C's that major maintenance will be done outside banking hours to minimise disruption (just like every other bank). So I guess the question is, is the period from 22h00 on a Saturday until 08h00 on a Sunday your typical banking hours? If not, what's your issue?

Never? They have more unplanned downtime than any other bank

fair enough, but still, why do they never advertise that? I mean they do down at some ungodly hours and "nobody" notices....
upgrade done and none are any the wiser.....

I mean isnt it the whole point of an IT dept to fix things BEFORE they go down and without ANYBODY notice?

does that mean FNB IT dept is better than ABSA?

If I have to guess we will ten to one see minimal downtime. If all goes well we wont notice it. If things goes to pot it will take longer and the downtime would be catered for. Furthermore, Ive spent some time working at the bank (not FNB or ABSA) and there are normally a truckload of systems integrating with each other which adds massive complexities to a major rollout.
