1st few pics of the all new Civic hatch.

The new CTR will make it appearance in the US for the 1st time as well.

"Arriving in fall 2016 in North America, the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback is the latest addition to the much-heralded 10th-generation Honda Civic lineup, joining the 2016 North American Car of the Year - the Civic Sedan, and the Civic Coupe that launched in early 2016. The 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback combines striking, Euro-inspired styling and five-door versatility with the Civic's world-class driving dynamics and Honda direct-injected turbo engine technology. The Civic Hatchback, scheduled to arrive this fall at Honda dealers nationwide, also will serve as the basis for the radical new Civic Type-R launching in the U.S. in 2017.

"The Civic Hatch has been a staple for Honda in Europe, but has long been the forbidden fruit for Honda fans in the U.S.," said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "Now, we're bringing this sporty, stylish and versatile Civic Hatchback to North America, as we amp up the performance of our incredible Civic lineup with each new Civic model."

Built on the same world-class platform as the 10th-generation Civic Sedan and Coupe, the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback offers an appealing combination of sporty styling, efficiency, interior utility and premium features. The Civic Hatchback will be available in LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Sport Touring trims, and will feature a single engine for the U.S. market: a 1.5-liter DOHC direct-injected turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder with peak output of 174 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque in LX, EX and EX-L trims and 180 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque in the Sport and an all-new Sport Touring grade, which feature a high-flow center-mounted exhaust.

The turbocharged engine will be offered with either a sporty CVT (all trims) or a performance-inspired 6-speed manual transmission (LX, Sport, and EX trims). Anticipated EPA fuel economy ratings of 31/40/34 mpg (city/highway/combined) for CVT-equipped models, based on the newer, more stringent model year 2017 EPA ratings requirements, put the 5-door Honda Civic Hatchback at the top of its class.

Working in concert with the Honda turbocharged powertrain is the Civic's more rigid and lightweight body and sophisticated chassis design, featuring a fully independent suspension system with liquid filled bushings, front and rear; sport-tuned electronic power steering with variable gear ratios; and powerful 4-channel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution and Hill Start Assist.

The interior of the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback carries through on the modern, sophisticated and premium quality of the 10th-generation Civic lineup, with high-grade materials and finishes applied liberally throughout. In terms of packaging, the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback delivers class-leading volume and cargo capacity, including a roomy interior (122.9 cu. ft.), best rear seat legroom (36.0 inches) and largest cargo carrying capacity in the competitive set.

Available on most trims (and standard on Sport Touring) will be the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies, which includes Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) integrated with CMBS, Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Departure Warning integrated with RDM and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow. Other available features include Honda Display Audio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (EX and above trims), heated front seats and heated side mirrors, power driver and front-passenger seats, remote engine start and more.

The Honda Civic Hatchback's all-new Sport Touring grade makes Honda Sensing, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and LED headlights as standard equipment, while adding heated rear seats and other features.

The Honda Civic Hatchback will target top-class safety ratings - an NCAP 5-star Overall Vehicle Score and an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK rating with a GOOD rating in all crash test modes and a SUPERIOR rating in frontal crash prevention, when equipped with Honda Sensing.

The 2017 Civic Hatchback was developed jointly by Honda R&D teams in Europe and Japan and will be manufactured exclusively by Honda of the UK Manufacturing in its Swindon, UK plant."

Say hello to the new Honda Civic hatchback…

The tenth-generation Honda Civic sedan has only just launched in South Africa (read our full driving impression), but now the Japanese automaker has officially revealed the hatchback version, too.

The vehicle you see in the accompanying images is the 1,5-litre turbocharged model destined for the North American market (yes, the US is finally getting the Civic hatchback), where it will join the already launched sedan and coupe variants.

This US version is, however, built by Honda’s UK manufacturing base in Swindon, which will serve as the “global production hub” for the hatchback model.

Production of the European Civic hatchback, meanwhile, is due to start at the same plant later this year, with sales commencing in initial markets in early 2017. It’s this model that will likely eventually be offered in South Africa.

No word yet, however, on exactly when we can expect the Civic hatchback to launch locally.

2017 Honda Civic officially revealed in production specification

Production specification examples of the 2017 Honda Civic have been revealed in new official pictures, including shots of the first cars departing Southampton for the US.

An Autocar reader spotted the cars heading south on a transporter last week, and now Honda has confirmed that they are the first five-door Civics destined to arrive at US dealerships for sale.

All five-door Civics will be built at Honda UK’s Swindon plant, which is the global production hub for the new model. It has received £200 million worth of investment to cater for the additional supply, with an anticipated 50% of future demand coming from Europe.

Swindon is also likely to produce a large number of the future Civic Tourer and Type R models, although the reveal of these versions is still some way off.

A four-door saloon version of the Civic was launched in the US late last year, but that model won’t be offered in the UK.

US-spec five-door Civics will be sold exclusively with a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine offering as much as 180bhp in its most potent form. The UK engine line-up is expected to be more comprehensive, with a 1.0-litre, 1.4-litre and the 1.5 all potential petrol-powered candidates.

Honda UK boss Philip Crossman has also hinted that a hybrid version will be offered. Speaking to Autocar earlier this year, he said: “We’ll come back with a class-leading hybrid powertrain in the next five years, and it’s likely to make as much impact as the VTEC valve system.”

The range-topping Type R model is likely to be fitted with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine like the current model, but power output will be ramped up beyond 306bhp.

US sales for the five-door model will start in September. Production for British models will start later this year, with order books opening in the first quarter of 2017.

After rolling out CarPlay in the 2016 Accord and Civic and in the 2017 Ridgeline, Japanese car manufacturer Honda today confirmed that Apple’s iPhone-connected infotainment system will be returning in the new five-door 2017 Civic Hatchback, arriving in North America this fall.

All five trims of the vehicle—the LX, Sport, EX, EX-L and Sport Touring—can be outfitted with CarPlay, but only the Sport Touring trim will include CarPlay by default, in addition to Android Auto support, Honda Sensing features and LED headlights, with other available features like heated rear seats, remote engine start, heated side mirrors and more

These are the first official pictures of the 10th-generation Honda Civic hatch, due in South Africa during the second quarter of 2017.

Built in the UK for global markets, this is the production version of the concept revealed at the Geneva motor show on March 2015 and, not surprisingly, bears a strong resemblance to the Civic sedan, released this month in South Africa, with which it shares an all-new platform.

As we noted then, the new Civic, whether in four or five-door configuration, owes nothing to its predecessor. It's 130mm longer overall, 30mm wider and 20mm lower, with larger rims and wider tyres, short overhangs and proportionately larger wheelbase, independent suspension with liquid-filled bushings all round and variable-ratio electromechanical power steering.

Honda Sensing

Interior trim is expected to follow the lines of the sedan, including its new 18cm touchscreen-based infotainment system, compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, on all but entry-level variants, while the flagship models will likely boast the Honda Sensing driver aids package, with adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring and forward collision warning.

Engine options for the SA market are likely to include the all-new 1.5-litre, direct-injection VTec turbopetrol four, rated for 127kW at 5500 revs and 220Nm from 1700ropm, as well as a less expensive carry-over version of the previous model's naturally-aspirated 1.8-litre VTec.

The sedan is available in South Africa only with CVT belt drive, but it's likely that at least one derivative of the hatch will be offered with a six-speed manual transmission, especially as there is already a fire-breathing Type R version in the pipeline.
