A man has died and another is seriously injured after they were found with stab wounds at the bottom of a gorge in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday, while another man died when he fell 60 metres down a cliff in Upper Tongaat, paramedics said.

In the first case, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a call where two men were injured in Giba Gorge, Pinetown on Sunday morning.

Netcare spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics and police search and rescue arrived at the scene and had to hike down a steep slope for about five hundred metres before they reached the first man.

“After the patient was examined they found that he had sustained a penetrating wound and he tragically died before our arrival.”

Botha said the team hiked a further five hundred metres along a path and found another patient lying near a river with a critical penetrating wound.

The patient was stabilised at the scene and taken to a hospital in Chatsworth for further treatment.

Botha said the police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Cliff fall

Meanwhile, IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst said paramedics and the police K9 unit were dispatched to the Tongaat area after the second incident.

“Rescuers had to be lowered down the cliff face so as to gain access to the body of the deceased individual. A specialised hoisting system was used to hoist the body up to accessible ground.”

He said the exact cause of the accident was unknown and the police had opened an inquest docket.

Nothing tragic about the guy who died at Giba, there was a cyclist riding on his own who was attacked by those two and another guy.
Unfortunately for them he had a pocket knife on him and knew how to use it.

So they tried to steal a bike but instead ended up getting stabbed in the process.

That's what I heard yesterday, it wasn't inside Giba it was on the road outside apparently.

From the pics I saw it was on one of the dirt roads leading to it.
There is more infor on www.bikehub.co.za about it but the site seems to be having hassles otherwise I would have linked to it.

That what I heard, exactly why the tell people not to ride on that stretch of road but rather to come by car.
