Well I can see BF1 going down the Hardline road now with no local players.
Look at these prices now :wtf:

Battlefield-1

The price of Battlefield 1 on Origin South Africa has just seen a massive increase, with the Standard Edition of the game now priced at R999.95 as opposed to its previous price tag of R599.95.

This price increase has been applied across all editions of Battlefield 1, with prices now ranging from R1,000 to R1,900.

This follows a recent persistent disparity between retail and digital video game prices in South Africa, with Battlefield 1 being much cheaper on Origin South Africa than from any local retailer.

It seems that this difference is no longer an issue for Battlefield 1, as gamers will now be paying R1,000 for the base version of the game on Origin and may find the game to be cheaper from local retailers.

MyGaming has reached out to EA for comment on these price changes.

Below are the new prices for Battlefield 1 on Origin South Africa:

Standard Edition – R999.95
Early Enlister Deluxe Edition – R1,009.95
Ultimate Edition – R1,899.90
Premium Pass – R799.95

Well this kills one of the arguments in the PC vs console debate. Games are now converging towards the same price across both platforms...

Retail stores will be cheaper.

They are, Raru has it for R889 and you get a nice case and physical disc. I know PC gamers don't care much about that anymore but the idea that a physical copy is cheaper than digital is crazy on PC.
Just a quick note, on PS4 digital is R829 and Raru has the physical copy for R999.

Yeah, but they're profiting way more on PC then, since they don't have to pay any royalties for the platform, unlike the consoles...

Will wait till it is like R199 or something in a year or so, same as I did with BF4.
Just a pity the player base will probably be minimal in SA.

With the high pricing, I can already see full BF4 servers again.

So far cheapest is loot.co.za @ R859. As much as I don't want to pay R860 for battlefield I think still maybe worth it for me as I have almost 2k hours in BF4. I don't really play any other games so shouldn't be to bad and I will most probably play this game just as much cause I'm getting bored playing bf4 now and not any other game is interesting enough for me.

I hope other games aren't affected by this madness. Eg FIFA 17.

How disappointing.

There are a few sites that you can buy the game on for cheaper then Origin. G2A ; Kingiun ; GreenManGaming. Just a few that comes to mind.

If I understand correctly the local suppliers are the reason why the price increased on origin. They want more sales and EA complied.

So if this is true. Do not buy locally.

I think our retail outlets, if they are behind this deserve to go out of business. We should vote with our wallets.

2016 will also be the year probably that COD/BF dies locally. Not a good sign to be honest.

good thing I bought my early enlister delux edition for a few hundred rands a few months ago!

Not a chance... a lot of people pre-ordered. A lot of people will find it on other stores like cdkeys.com. A lot of people will buy it for R1k. Games like COD and BF does not just die. Especially when they do stuff like BF does and go back to WW1 with a VERY optimised engine and amazing graphics. Gun mechanics and game play overall is some of the best out there.

Sure there will be a slow start for these games because they are expensive now. But people will still buy the game and they will not just die in 2016!
