How expensive South Africa’s mobile data prices really are

There will always be push-back on this, data is the final frontier for a lot of Telco's and if that is discounted I see many of them having to scale down operations i.e profits..
 
Now what I would like to see as well is the rest of the world's Telco's CEO compensation versus ours... Because I bet you this is why we are paying so much more than the rest of the world.

I trust you understand that the majority of South africans are not even using data at the moment.
Less than 100 000 people of the 50 + Million are using Internet data as we should be using it today.

The future of the things is everything will be Data so the days of 1 gig 2 Gig and 10 Gig is a Joke.

Nobody will lose at an ARPU of R300 per subscriber per month for 100 Gigs = 3Gigs a day = 2 Movies
Currently we are averaging between R70 - R100 ARPU per subscriber per Month which network will complain.

Here in South Africa the mobile networks have got accustomed to huge profit margins. Efficient operators can provide this service at a low cost and still make profit.
 
So in Rands, SA is third cheapest.

A gig at around the R60 mark seems fair for now. More reductions later.

Where do you get data at R60 per GB?
Did you mean R160 per GB?
All the companies are about R149 to 160 per GB

AND the day expires after 30 days.
Pre-Paid electricity does not expire - why does data expire?

I meant it should be around R60, not it IS R60.

They are MVNO.

They run on cellc. I use them as 2nd sim in my phone for data works 100%.
 
Take into account the high usage or uncapped packages available and it looks a lot bleaker for us.

The problem is not what we pay for data but what we get for it. By giving users what they need networks can still make just as much money but the cost per GB will come down dramatically. But unfortunately the providers are vested in getting the most money from making people use their networks the least. It's mind boggling considering they don't pay extra for extra usage.
