So I recently discovered www.dialcheap.com
Now I was shocked when I saw that their call rates are so low. 14c per minute to any network in SA excluding premium numbers.
So I started to give them a try.
First of all loading credit. Not flexible amounts so it starts from $10 upwards.
Now here is where things get really interesting. The methods that you can make a call is via call back which means you get charged for the call back and for the call you make, sip so you dial via sip details, local number you dial then you punch in your number you wish to dial and via software on the pc.
So I setup sip in my Telkom LTE router and it works very well. SIP server is located in The Netherlands so latency is higher than a local server but the quality was still very good.
Once you registered you can setup the CLI to be your cellphone number or your landline number by verifying that you own that number via sms or callback.
So when you make calls it will show your number as if you were dialing from it.
Calls are really really cheap at only R0.14 per minute any time any network in south africa. Once you registered your account as from South Africa the system automatically picks up when you dial south african numbers and you do not need to dial in international format unless you dial an international destination or registered your account in a different country.
There are some cons though but still very reasonable.
*International sip server
*Per minute billing throughout the call
*Service fees when topping up. Bitcoin is the lowest fee @ only $0.05 service fee
*Limited payment options but they do have paypal, bitcoint and visa/mastercard but as I mention service fees are high with those payment methods best is bitcoin.
*No flexible topup amounts. Fixed denomination topups.
*No incoming calls, local did or national did for incoming calls.
I did some more researching and looks like there are a bunch of these VOIP resellers out there reselling from one large company but their rates differ quite a bit. The lowest for South Africa rates is dialcheap.
