Nokia 3310 – The icon is back

This handset is to die for ... packed full of all the right specifications. No 3G = and the cherry on top is "Snake" :)

Waterproof? And when networks start switching off their 2G networks this phone will become useless....

Thirty days standby, and a sunlight readable display.

I want mine in gloss red. Who am I kidding, I'll take one of each.

For +- 50 euro and someone who just wants a basic phone it's going to be interesting to see the sales. I reckon it's going to sell fast especially for the retro crowd who'll see it as novel and an excuse to actually speak instead of text.

Yellow for me...

Finally, it does have camera.

2G only, no 3G - Ockie will be disappointed. .LOL. :)

What this phone needs is a stripped down version of Android along with 3G/LTE support

No it doesn't need android, nor does it need 3G/LTE

What it does need is the ability to do basic connectivity and instant messaging. Nokia has the resources to contract out a simple version of Telegram or Signal for these devices. Simply make it text only for now and you would have a phone that would be able to hold its own in the world of Whatsapp.

edit:

These guys say it will have space for a few simple apps.

One disappointing point is the fact the new Nokia 3310 is only 2.5G compatible. That means no 3G or 4G data speeds, resulting in a very basic browsing experience.

Certain markets will also be able to download simplified Twitter and Facebook apps, but these weren’t available to use during our hands on.

Honestly, if something like this can do Telegram/ Whatsapp, I think I would be very tempted to get one, and put my Afrihost sim card into a nice 7 inch tablet for the "smart" things we have become dependant on.

The novelty will wear off. This will be a fail IMO.

If this phone can support WhatsApp its going to be a great hit...

This. The market it's aimed at screams fad.
If you're really a collector, buy the real thing.
