The interview questions programmers are asked in South Africa

Lots of Amazon questions..
Sadly nothing I've not seen/been asked/asked

I find it funny..

Where I work.. the devs must do the IKAM assesments, technical interview etc. The rest of the company (Business analyst etc) don't have any thing similar. Just plain normal interview.

Seems pretty straightforward. Some questions highly specific to a tech but I'd assume relevant to the minimum requirements of the job.

Personally I like questioning verbally in a interview vs an assessment. Verbal responses require a person to articulate their thoughts and methods, assessments can be duplicated/parroted. Also you get a tremendous amount of "soft" info talking to someone. Mannerisms, aptitude, attitude etc.

My gripe is that you go through the assessment, technical interview and normal interview, getting asked things like why is a manhole round. You get the job and then discover that your first task is to ge the meeting room carpet replaced because some super genius decided that the IT dept. needs to deal with building maintenance as well.

I was asked, "Any reason we should not hire you?".

"I'll do nothing for your BEE rating" was the correct answer to get a laugh out of them.

Heading says programmers, then half the questions are for support "engineers".

You must work for a small company. :p

Maybe you qualified under a different condition under the employment equity act. If there are no people without limbs or other physical disabilities at your office, you might have been just the one raising that quota

This.

Worst question that I ALWAYS get asked, is "Where do you see yourself in this comany in 5 years?". Like, I'm not here to tell you how to manage me, I'll just be doing my job as best I can and whatever happens after, isn't up to me - until I'm in management, which, again, isn't up to me.

So I always answer to whoever is interviewing me: "Having taken over your job.".
