Windows 7 is still king – and is getting more users

It's going to take a very long time to kill Windows7. It just works and does so amazingly well.

DX12 will be the death to Windows7 though... I already can see it becoming a problem for me personally but if not for DX12 I would never move :o

MS may need to make the upgrade from 7 to 10 free again.

Recount around Q3/4 2019 by then businesses would have made the shift. I know many have started the ground work using the anniversary and creators editions, and whats even more interesting is they seriously considering relying on the built in security so they canning third party encryption, anti-malware,... The Endpoint Security companies are going to take a serious hit when Windows 7 hits EOL in 2020. And with the move to the Cloud the Infrastructure and Networking companies are also in danger. Interesting times ahead...

MS needs to make the upgrade from win 7 pro and suchlike to win 10 pro free.

I know smb's taking the punch and got kicked off their domain cause the crap only installed home on seperate licenses.

Ms needs to disable everything except the core requirments and gui and offer admin customers and obviously sccm and gpo's the ability to add features rather than remove crap.

Good. Meanwhile I'm just sailing smoothly, "Ransomware free" over here with Windows 10 and playing some awesome games at the same time. I agree that MS should try to make the shift to Windows 10 less expensive, but I also am glad that I made the right decision at the time to backup my Windows 8.1 system and move to Windows 10. The difference is like night and day for me, even from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro on my work laptop. :)

What difference is that, exactly?

I work on all the windows flavours daily, and windows 10 has some serious annoyances like the long search/delay when opening the Printers settings and several options like Easy transfer having been removed to name the first to come to mind.

If more game devs adopted vulkan that could change.

Totally agree. Like u say. It just works amazingly well.

Windows 7 works but a proper install and configuration of windows 10 works just as well if not better.

My complaints ranges a little more to the attempted idiot proof GUI like "Settings" built on top of the control panel and Microsoft's push for using their app store. Who actually uses it?

No. Nope. Not a snowballs chance in the Sahara. (Was going to say Knysna, but that may be a little insensitive.)
XP looks to be completely dead by 2018. Halved from 10% to 5% in the last year.
Recent outbreak of ransomware might be the cause of this. Also, you got to wonder if MS didn't play some part in this.
