I didn't seem to have an issue, but will try later tonight again.
The phone sits in Do Not Disturb mode when I am at work, so i don't recall it ever stopping the Music while on Mute.

I get the same with my p8
 
And I'm still getting screen glitches. Now mostly in WhatsApp while typing.

I think it's related to the full screen app or something. I would see the top of the WhatsApp screen at the bottom of my acrren for a split second.

It's so intermittent, and almost impossible to catch.

So with my old phones, I would put them on charge before bed and disconnect in the morning. But I have heard before that you shouldn't leave a phone on the charger once it hits 100%. So with these new advanced super chargers would it be a very bad idea to charge them overnight?

Most phones made in the last 10 years automatically stop charging when 100%.
 
Guys what is the verdict on this phone? Is it comparable to a Note 8 or S8?

Anything is comparable :p I can compare my Mate 10 with a potato, it's not to say that there will be a lot of similarities...

I've had all 3 phones, S8+, Note 8, and the Mate 10 Pro now... and with all the improvements that Huawei has put in over the last couple of years they are getting damn close. Not quite there yet, but Samsung definitely have to start watching their back

I agree with Fanie, Huawei have done a fine job here.

So here's my view on it:

I currently have a Note8 and the Huawei Mate10 Pro review unit, after using the Review unit as my main phone for a week I have returned to my Note8, mainly because I use the SPen a lot, BUT I still use the Mate10 Pro a lot, especially for the Camera, I feel like Huawei put a whole lot more effort in this area, theres a lot of tweaking and messing around one can do.

To be quite honest, I'd easily recommend the Mate10 Pro over a Note8 to someone who does not plan on utilising the SPen and wants a large screen phone that isn't too large overall. The Huawei packs just as powerful hardware and the UI is seriously fast and smooth.

Places where I find the Huawei Mate10 Pro better:
- 4G LTE Reception
- UI Speed - it is ludicrously fast and smooth, I feel like its just quicker at a local functions.
- Fingerprint Scanner Speed, Placement and Accuracy - it puts the Note8 to shame in this, it almost always opens the first time and is better placed
- Ergonomics (better to use one handed)
- Heat Dissipation - Guys, this phone barely gets hot, I am not sure if this is partly due to the NPU doing some of the heavy lifting but I have not noticed it get warm
- Keyboard - SwiftKey puts Samsung's keyboard to absolute shame, it is incredibly good at its word and sentence prediction
- Battery Life in Heavy Usage - the Mate10 Pro seems to maintain its battery better in heavy usage

Places I find the Note8 better:
- Display -Samsung remains unrivalled here, the Mate10 has a great display, don't get me wrong, but Samsung have this area on Lockdown, the Note8s display is brighter, smoother and more accurate.
- UI Consistency - Samsung have had their own problems with TouchWiz but in their new Samsung Experience UI in Note8 they have become a lot better at toning down the UI and working well with what Google already offers.
- Battery Standby - the Note8 doesn't lose as much battery i.e. Overnight while in Standby
- Bluetooth Support - Note8 has BT5.0 and has no problem connecting to any car I get into, the Mate10 and the Jaguar Infotainment System just don't want to get along.
- SPen - this is the Note8s main draw and FOR ME is what wins it over any other device available, I use the SPen a lot for annotations, and grabbing content from images and videos.

No Repeat, Scan etc... Options In the 2nd one. I see what you mean. You are limited in the control you have which can be quite annoying.

My Nexus 5X screen cracked, and I haven't gotten round to having it fixed yet.
So yesterday a mate and I walked into a Telkom shop for an LTE contract for him.
I see the Mate 10 pro device only is R14 200 and next thing you know, there's a big, gaping hole in my cheque card.

So that happened.

It's awesome. Very noticeable difference coming from a 2+ year old Nexus 5X.
I'm surely going to miss the Nexus, but such is life.

First question: I like the Pixel launcher. What will I be missing if I stick to the pixel launcher instead of using the EMUI launcher? I have basically zero experience with Huawei (or any other custom launchers for that matter).

Second question: I've read through the entire thread, but is there a short version on tips and tricks to maximise battery life? I've managed to get mine down to 14% (from a full charge) in... 12 hours? (and there was a good 7 or so hours of sleep in there- had Google Play music download one of my playlists for offline listening during that time) I was expecting a bit more, to be honest. Given, I was going through setup of everything one does when switching to a new device, so not really normal usage.
 
The main way I've found to optimise battery usage is manually setting which apps can auto launch.

Settings - battery - launch - manage batch manually.

Only set the apps you require push notifications for to auto launch.

Regarding the app drawer, it's just a matter of preference. On the Huawei P8, I used the on screen icons, on this Mate 10 Pro, I have the app drawer enabled (just find it easier to find apps / less desktop clutter). But as I said, it's personal preference.
 
So, first issue.

Android Auto.
Playing music is a bust. Sometimes, it will play the first song, but after that, nothing. Just nothing. And it's only sometimes, after you've manually connected bluetooth and started playing music without connecting via usb.

Most of the time however, there's just nothing. The car shows it's playing a song, the phone shows it's playing, but nothing.

And this stupid thing keeps asking to allow android auto to access the device storage- every time. And I can't find where to tell it to stop asking and just accept it. I also can't find the trusted devices setting in the menu, in order to classify my car as a trusted device. Any help?

If this phone doesn't work with Android Auto, I don't know what I'm going to do, it's really fouling my mood and destroying what has so far been a very awesome experience.

Is there any way in general just to revert to the stock android security management instead of Huawei's implementation? Can't say I'm liking it at all :(

For reference, Android Auto works FLAWLESSLY on my Nexus. So I know it's not the car/head unit (which is a Kenwood DDX9016SM- for what it's worth)- it's definitely the Mate.
