OLED vs LCD vs LED – What you need to know

Not exactly news, but a useful summary. OLED smartphones are great indoors, but terrible outdoors, since the lack of polarisation means they are swamped by bright daylight, compared to LCD which still provided some capability.
 
Plasma, Qled ??
I have a 60" LG Plasma TV and it is brilliant. Big benefit is that you can watch from the side unlike LCD where you pretty much have to be right in front for best view.
 
OLED Lifespan issue

OLEDs like plasma have a display with an inherently limited lifetime (since they consume the chemicals in the display). It is too new a technology to tell if this really is an issue, but the potential problem should have been mentioned.
 
The next decent thing to OLED would be a nice IPS panel.

Slight Necro,
I have a Samsung plasma and my GF has a Samsung LED. The one thing I have noticed is streaming HD content looks MUCH better on the plasma. The plasma is HD ready and the LED is full HD, the resolution is probably better on the LED but the picture looks weird, unatural if you will, I honestly cannot like it. I also had a Hisense UHD tv, streaming looks even worse on it. Sure Full HD and UHD content looks brilliant, the downside with this is it looks so good that everything bascially looks fake.
Now with my plasma +- 5years old it probably doesn't have much time left and it upsets me that my options are now LED/LCD. My projector in the "Cinema Room" also looks far superior to the LED/LCD, but the blacks are not black which also irretates me, watched the conjuring 2 this weekend which is a very dark movie in general, it looked pretty ****ty since all the dark (black) scenes were dark grey -_-

I'm so with you on this. Love both the plasmas we have. Samsung and JVC. Such crisp imagery, especially for DSTV etc. It just looks **** on LED\LCD and everything else.

I wish they'd still make plasma TVs. Still the most crisp image I've ever seen and I've just been to the Samsung store recently. Amazing that after all these years, they can't get LCD\LED etc to match plasma in terms of that.

Oled ... Prices are dropping. There were specials not long ago for the lg 65 c7 for 42k ... Sure hope 2018 will see even better pricing with our currency improvement

Plasma has been dead for a few years now already mate.

So no UHD on Plasma which means it's useless to everyone on the modern standard.

They were great though.

Well the question is whether that inherent lifetime really matters in the greater scheme of technology moving on.

Besides that other crap will still die in the TV which doesn't have an immortal panel.

I liked my plasma - I really did. I chose it over any of the LCDs at the time. It was natural and had far better black levels - but I had too many static sources and the retention drove me mad. I got so sick of seeing my HUD from gaming in the corner and hated running Pixel Washer 2.0 every few days to clear it.

I changed in 2009 to LCD and was very happy. Though, I'd never used DSTV on it and I only watched pirated movies/Xbox. I've always heard DSTV looks better on a plasma? I then got the H7000 and also a KU7000 - truly amazing. Perhaps my eyes are just used to it by by now - but a plasma would just look dull after seeing this UHD with 1 billion+ colours

Better lies somewhere between the upscaling from SD to HD on Plasmas generally being better, but also the interpolation tech (which you really should'n't have on anyway) making LCD look *** and soap opera and smeared where Plasma didn't need any of that for a good image.

I'm sure Plasma wouldn't have looked too much different at UHD resolution, but would have cost a fortune.

Believe it or not, Postman and I are actually friendly to each other nowadays ;)

I've got a KU7000 - a budget UHD. I really didn't expect much at the price was didn't even think it'd match the H7000 - but it does and, I feel, betters it. I'm watching a UHD source on Netflix now and it really is amazing.

EDIT : You're more than welcome to pop over if you're in the area and check it out. I'm running nice Elac 407 speakers (https://www.elac.com/product/fs-407/) for the sound as well and it both looks and sounds magic. I just need to get a dedicated room now :P

You could (and can) turn that soap opera effect off though and have it running at 24fps (on the H series - not the KU). I liked something inbetween.

For what it's worth, the H7xxx was actually a real premium 7 series whereas the KU7xxx (and above) are actually just rebadged 6 series. Picture aside, you lose out tons (Bluetooth, voice remote, premium looke tc) coming from an old 7 series to a new 7 series.
