The build number will be 1803, so obviously rollout will commence from the end of March 2018, like the other updates.
 
What, that's it? I opened the link to see more info on the update, maybe a changelog or talk on some new features........nothing.
I could've guessed myself, that there is an update coming. What a waste of time. Like I read this kind of generic article, before.
 
Microsoft continues its migration from the Control Panel to the Settings application, Fonts or Sound settings for instance, but it is still happening in snail speed. Microsoft continues its habit of renaming features and moving settings around.

In version 1709 I was unable to setup IP printer manually and access to the Control Panel become obscured. Lets see how renaming features continue... <g>

Though it was too easy, its a given that if its MS based sajunky will weigh in with some Bitcoin conspiracy nonsense, or some "bug" that only he ever experiences.

I can have added many printers manually via IP address on 1709 (aka the old way).

Control panel gets more hidden and hidden, and Set Default Programs is also not pointing to the correct place anymore, but I have ways of getting to Set Default Programs

Do you have some magic wand to switch off the d---mn updates permanently? Win 10 home was installed under, over and around my objections on a gift laptop (touchscreen busted but everything else works) i.e. you can't look a gift horse in the mouth. HOWEVER the updates ... I shall leave it there. It's Win 10 home, so changes to the registry etc that work in win 10 pro do not work.

Unfortunately old registry hacks do not work there. Microsoft is trying to hide Bitcoin mining activity and wipe any trace, it is why frequent updates are not optional.

The old trick should still work. A new installation of Win7 Pro, DAZ it, then upgrade to Win 10 Pro. Say to Microsoft you are crippled, they will activate your copy by digital certificate.

Problem is that starting from version 1607 updates of the version Pro are also optional, ignoring group policy settings.

The only way to semi-permanently disable updates in Home is to set your Wifi/Internet connection to metered. This enables you to say 'no thanks, not now' to the very annoying popup reminding you to update every 24 hours. However, every time you time you connect on a mobile wifi (or if you reset your router for any reason) you have a new IP and Win 10 treats a new IP as a new connection and resets the wifi settings to allow the updates. So every time you switch the internet on, you have to reset the wifi settings. And this still doesn't stop the incessant requests to allow the updates now. It makes the entire experience painful.

Win Pro there are a few other tricks to change some registry settings and force it not to update.
