Rain Mobile tested – The results

Rain launched its first mobile products on 6 June 2018, offering data priced at 5c per MB and unlimited data usage for between 15 and 90 days as part of its launch promotion.

MyBroadband ordered two sets of products from Rain – one SIM-only, and one with a Huawei P20 Lite smartphone.

if only they would delivery my sim card. first was told friday then sunday and made me wait all day both times to no delivery, great customer service. already finding it pathetic

The fact that Mybb has not yet investigated or at least asked for clarification from Rain why they chose to use the B618 and "claim" it's LTE-A on their network is beyond me.

I have many times proved that the network setup that Rain runs having band 3 and band 38 for LTE-A is not working on LTE-A routers because the bands can't be aggregated by most devices.

If anything the only tests posted here that can claim LTE-A is the ones done with the S8. The B618 tests are all LTE not LTE-A.

We did indeed investigate, and received feedback from the Rain CTO on the matter. Not sure what the feedback was, but I do not think there was an article in it.

Quite sure, there was no such article.

Only good thing I took away from this article are the cell c speeds . Impressed . Just need a affordable uncapped package

As an ex Cell C ,then Vodacom user, now Telkom mobile user I can tell you cell C is quite decent in Jhb, much better than Telkom mobile and in many areas even Vodacom, it's in the rural areas that I battled with cell c on edge like Mpumalanga dorpies for example you will cry.

That said now that they can roam on MTN LTE in dorpies that might be a problem of the past soon hopefully.

After a bit of research by myself, I might just take this Rain mob for a spin. They've piqued my interest and that's a good thing. Anything that disrupts the easy, comfortable cash cow that SA's mobile operators enjoy in the mobile data field is more than welcome in my book.

Well I am keen to try but that is only if I ever get my sim card, always gets delayed and get promised that going to get a refund on delivery charges.

What gets to me is that I was order 106 and makes me think that that in 2 days they could not even deliver 100 odd sim cards, what are us end users suppose to think.

Thanks guys, this is a great test. There is one element that I would like to see added though; the cost of the data. MTN, CELL-C and Vodacom my seem to be the fastest, but at what cost compared to Telkom-Mobile and Rain?

I was order 885 and my sim was delivered but was told that it gave an "ID Mismatch" and was told to contact support. Yet I have Rica previously with no issues. SO awaiting their feedback now
