IS on MyADSL

I'm not a reseller - but this sickens me. I have been brought to a halt this week due to exceptionally poor performance on IS ADSL. Our server, hosted at IS, is also affected - once again, because our users cannot access it at a decent speed.

Now, instead of addressing the problem, IS go on an advertising campaign to generate more business, which in turn will lead to further performance issue.
Nice one.

Oh, and if they bother to advertise here, they surely must read the complaints about them - why not make the effort to appoint a support "technician" to reply on these forums?

this statement is seconded and strongly supported

IS will slow down to a crawl, even on local, there will be a big storm in rosebank, there switchboard will light up with disgruntled users.

They blame telkom, but wait, there is still more room on their saturated network.

typical didata!

LOL - like a taxi driver - always room for one more!

Yes well I have just signed up with IS, thru a local ISP for convenience, and I know of several more who have done so seeing as Verizon/Uunet uncapped is going titsup. But it seems fine so far - Easynews flatlines my connection weekends/evenings, so I am quite happy up to now. Nice to have the extra fixed IPs too in case I feel like setting up a server.

I am not sure why IS resellers would complain about IS advertising here, as you have always been able to buy thru them directly, so what has changed?

Quoted For Truth,

Joining a IS ISP tomorrow, holding thumbs!

The same here. It really ticks me off that they advertise for new business while the existing service is unacceptable.

I signed up with IS because I didn’t want to support Telkom any further than the already outrageously expensive ADSL line. But IS’s service has been so slow that I was forced to get a SAIX account. Only trouble is that IS has the only decent Usenet server in the country as far as I know. So now I have to pay for two accounts. Sigh.

k, ill bite on the issue re having local access problems to a server hosted in one of our erm, IS' ;-) idcs via adsl. instead of bitching about it how about some more detail into the problem with some data to support it and lets see what falls out of the tree...

i know a janitor that works at IS, that prolly could get some answers ;-)

why not make the effort and log it officially with IS or via the visp/vcp responsible for your adsl account... where it actually can be followed up/escalated and so forth ... (and no, i am not going to get into a discussion re this particular subject) ... just a thought..

i am pretty sure IS knows that:

- sat links (international) going down when there is a storm
- ipc b/w related issues
- the odd provisioning class problem

j.

... k, another disclaimer goes here... something about playing in traffic and writing emails/responding on forums all by myself on my own little world ...

oh no, i hear IS connects their switchboard via adsl, so that when those storms hits in rosebank (nevermind that earth station aint in rosebank), it keeps people in the queue longer (additional latency) listening to marketing material :-P

What do IS resellers think, now that IS started advertising on MyADSL?

yeah you quite right. mybroadband should have refused the additional revenue for the advertising space IS is making use off....

but since you brought this topic up; those ads are for business adsl, not the consumer adsl (ie resellers) ... IS does not sell individual accounts ... (ie IS does not compete with their own resellers) ... but then again ... i blame the thunder storms ;-)

j.

... one day ill have a funky disclaimer up here but for now, all of the above entirely my own doing ... i think ...

... and TelkomInternet does not compete with Telkom resellers. ;-)

Look, I would have believed you, but the ads links to a page with a form for both IS Business ADSL and IS Capped ADSL. Here a 2GB ISDSL retails for R199 p/m per account with a setup fee of R500.

The R500 setup fee, I take is the fee to become an IS reseller.

The following small print is with IS Capped ADSL:

*Made available by IS through our VISP and VCP partners. This is a basic IS capped ADSL service (excluding modem). Our partners may charge at different rates depending on their service offerings.

Perhaps an IS reseller might explain how that works.

Look, I would have believed you, but the

we all know that telkom does compete with their resellers, both dial-up and adsl.

i am not really going to argue with you on this issue.

i can tell you that we (internet solutions) does not sell consumer adsl (ie capped) to individual users. and if you still doesnt believe me, hey, who cares then :-) [i challenge anybody to prove me wrong on this particular topic if you really feel that strongly about it; a case of beer to the one that does]

and speaking about strong feelings; the IS ads here on mybroadband, i am sure i can arrange for it to be removed if it bothers you that much..

Don't know who you are jc@speedy- but don't think IS would appreciate your flippant comments to a bunch of users on this forum - who constantly complain about IS state of the network - or non-state as the case may be. You really have nothing to say - and I've I were you I wouldn't mention 'we (internet solutions)' - unless you are in some official capacity - (disclaimer or no) -. You are no good advert.

Well said.

jc@speedy, as one of IS's resellers, I really do not appreciate the way you are addressing our clients / users. You need some training in communcation skills my brother. Rather refrain from posting on this forum if your attitude is going to remain.

Just my thoughts.....

As far as I know the Business ADSL and capped ADSL goes through the same IPC links which at the moment is totally oversubscribed. So at the moment IS is only worsening the problem with adding extra Business ADSL users

Yep they know about it...... since last year August..... and we are still sitting with the same problems

@ jc@speedy

Your comments are unfounded and inappropriate. I have logged NUMEROUS support requests with IS re: the poor performance. Where applicable, I have also supplied tracerts and pings, as well as comparitive reports to my server located elsewhere. Where available, I have (at my own time expense), provided FTP times for a file transfer to IS and to my other server, clearly showing that IS FTP is failing or extremely slow.

For a number of these issues, no one at IS has even had the decency to call me - and I have the outstanding correspondence to prove it.

Next time you want to attack forumites, please get your facts straight first.
