Blu Ray wins the battle

I dunno if it is technically correct to say that "Blu-Ray" has won the battle. Sure the HD-DVD format has pulled out of the running, but would it not be more correct to reserve "winning the battle" for when Blu-Ray actually becomes a commercial success for Sony? We don't even know yet if they have recouped their development and marketing costs on the technology. Are consumers going to take to the new format in droves and abandon their other options in favor of Blu-Ray? And is the format actually going to stick around for any length of time? I'll reserve my judgement for then.

We've been through so many of these 'format wars' that eventually it becomes irrelevant. As long as the physical format is the same (5.25" in this case), it's pretty moot what encoding and reading / writing technology they use. Eventually we would have seen low cost multi-format players / writers.
Remember the CD +/-/R/W/RAM 'war'? Lot's of standards but now players supports all of them.
Remember SA-CD / DVD-Audio?, ditto. DD/DTS, the list goes on....
The replacement for Blu-Ray is already in use in the big production houses, but I'm sure when it goes commercial there will be some competing 'standard'.
