HTC TyTN II (Codename: Kaiser)

Nice upgrade for Tytn, but will be a while before we due for this upgrade:sick:

when do you think we will actually be getting this to South African shores? And i'm sure I've read somewhere that this is a dual core version...gona do some research on it now...

I called Leaf and they said October or November 'cause they have to run down stocks of current TyTN. What a bummer. I need one NOW!
Also, anyone know where I can get 4GB or 6GB microSD cards for the TyTN II?

Did they give you any idea of what the price might be?

I really, really want one - but I have a perfectly functional current TyTN, so I need to give myself some sort of justification to dump it and buy the new one :-)

Does anyone from MTN know when we'll be able to get these phones on a contract/upgrade ?

Whatever happened to user MTNHandsets? His last post was in 2005 or something. He would have known.

What about buying it at Expansys for about R5,600 and even if you get stung for import duty you'd still be saving a couple of thousand.

Exactmall R10,000

Expansys
R5,600
+ VAT 14%
= R6,384
+ R200 for shipping

The TyTN II value in pound 480.00. if my math is correct the pound is @ R 14.3/ R 14.5 ---- That is about R 6700.00.

add VAT and Import Duties and shipping ( No way its gonna R 200.00 )

Buying from the Hong Kong Expansys site would be :
6,180 Hong Kong Dollar = 5,563.51 South African Rand
Shipping: Fedex Rest of the World - HKD 325 = R292

The question still needs to be asked why the price in SA is so much higher than the rest of the world - it looks like they have priced it to compete with cost individuals importing it themselves.

What is the total after VAT and Import duties?

I agree pricing is SA can be a tad bit more than the rest of the world, this is understandable cos everyone is in business to make a buck, Resellers then need to support the product as well, that is the most important part, Support. That is what you pay for but i agree sometimes pricing is can be down right ridiculous.

The UK is known for their high prices, but SA takes the cake.

I think using the term "a tad bit" more expensive is an understatement. There's a big difference between "making a buck" and ripping the public off, and ripping the public off is more likely what its about in SA, as the support and for the products can't cost any more here.
