SAOL Fixed IP Bundle Account - R499 P/M ?

Sounds like it, says its unshaped, u get 15GB free then pay per GB

It did sound good until I read the TOS

* Monthly charges are R499
* This is a 24 month agreement
* A setup fee (once off payment) of R1500 is required
* This setup fee includes shipping costs
* The cisco router that is supplied is on loan to you for the duration of the use of the service
* N.B If you currently have a normal telephone line (this line rental is still payable to Telkom), we will need to upgrade your line to ADSL and transfer the ADSL portion of the line to Saol.com. This transfer process takes Telkom up to 21 days. On confirmation of transfer we can activate this service immediately and have the router shipped to you no later than 48hrs. While we will endeavor to have your ADSL line transferred to Saol.com in this time frame, please note that this is reliant on Telkom's planning department. Should there be a delay or early delivery we will inform you accordingly
* If you already have ADSL (not with Saol.com), we will migrate your ADSL line to Saol.com. This migration process takes Telkom up to 10 days. On confirmation of migration we can activate this service immediately and have the router shipped to you no later than 48hrs. While we will endeavor to have your ADSL line transferred to Saol.com in this time frame, please note that this is reliant on Telkom's planning department. Should there be a delay or early delivery we will inform you accordingly

Yeah, I called, and it is a pretty good offer

a static ip, 15 gigs international unshaped, for R499
this includes the telkom line.

so what if you have to wait to move the line,

setup fee of R1500, might be a bit high for some, but imagine what you can do with this account

anyway, I'm considering...

Yes I would take it no doubt but the setup fee is like R1500 kinda pricey. But for a 12month contract its not bad.

15x12=180GB

R499x12= R5988 + R1500 = R7488

7488/180 = R41.60 per gig unshapped includes your line rental! NOT bad at all!

You are paying a R1500 setup fee? FOR WHAT?!?!?! Seriously now... you dont own the CISCO router... so what? You are paying some fob R1500 to enter a few commands and setup a little routing? RIP OFF!

* This setup fee includes shipping costs

Again.. for what? Why should you pay for shipping on a router you dont own... even though you have that moerse setup fee

Cons:

- R1500 setup free... this is retarded and smells like dead fish (make it R150... and its fair)
- Dont own the CISCO router (even though you forked out R1500 in your setup fees)
- 24 month contract.

Im not sure if its worth the bandwidth.

Hi W1z4rd

The Setup Fee of R1500.00 is very reasonable for the offer we are presenting,

There is much more involved then just adding a few commands.

We stand by what we are offering, there are no lies , no misleading facts. We are offering the cheapest ADSL solution there is in the market right now.

What we are offering , is what you get,
You get an ADSL Line, 15 GB Local/International ( This is not IS bandwidth, we use Saix as our uplink provider and we have our own ADSL Infrastructure), This is unshaped, it is on a flexicap, so you do not get capped, although you can call in and cap your account till the next month, if you are concerned about spending money limitlessly.

Don't forget and loose focus on the key of the product, this is a static IP account, not dynamic IP.

Look at all the other uncapped ADSL in the Market with Fixed (static) IP, look at the monthly costs involved,

We are offering a cheaper solution, a customized solution for customers that want a fixed IP solution, who are not looking for more than 15 Gigs a month, that have a flexibility in how they manage their data and account. We also graph their utilisation.
This offer included the Telkom ADSL line. No other ISP offers this.

By offering an all in one business adsl with a flexicap is great. This product has been a great hit so far. It serves the purpose for the applicant.

The purchase price of the cisco router is in the average of R4000.00. We are so confident in our service and product, that we at SAOL , are happy to outlay such a huge cost in providing a successful solution for the client.

Anyone else wanting more information on this product or any other product that we offer can e-mail me directly at [email protected].

Thank you
Neethi

Hi Wizard

We don't do anything by half standards, we use the best there is , to provide the best we can.

Cisco's do not come cheap, check with anyone.

We will not attempt to use any other "cheap" router, as then we will not be able to stand by our product :)

Thanks for airing your opinion, it is valued

Thank you
Neethi

Well kudos for participating in the forum, you at least score with the people here on that.

Personally, I would want know what the 1.5k gets me as a 'setup', but if you say the routers are expensive... they must.

Hi Neethi,

This product looks great, and kudus for bringing it to market.

Q: Whats the contention ratio like on this? I understand there will be some bottleneck at SAOL can you give us some sort of idea on what we can expect out of this service. Is there some sort of guaranteed minimum speed I will get?

Thanks,

It is of course far too much for the rental of a router, but the deal over all isn't a rip off at all. I assume you are subsidising some of the costs with a large upfront payment.

The bandwidth is the cheapest you can find, even if it wasn't unshaped, which really seals the deal.

Hi

The contentions are better than ou currently uncapped business adsl accounts. In fact it is almost identical minus the costs :)

Thank you
Neethi

And at R 59.00 for unshaped "top-up" after you reach the 15 gig limit, damn well done, this is certainly starting to take a step in the right direction. Running a small server from home the static IP would be great for me, although a 384 line just won't cut it as I need better upload speed, infact I could live with something in the line of 1meg upload and 2 meg download, that would be nice.
